So what you're saying is: \"Not sure GEP is good ornot, but still beats mainstream programme hands down lah.\" My interpretation correct ornot?Of course, some helps are still better than no helps at all in Maisntreams. Whether GEP program is good route or not, that is another discussion altogether and I have my own reservation.
Don't get angry over something I wish to clarify hor.FQW:
For all you know, you have small class-size in GEP, good teaching materials in GEP and teacher can have close-coaching in GEP, Aren't these the helps that the GEPpers received. :? Even without any parental helps, GEP teachers and GEP branch will provide help to those GEPpers all the time. All these helps/benefits that GEPpers are getting will definitely help them to perform. In fact, these will help the mainstreamers to perform as well provided all these helps/benefits are equally provided to mainstreamers.
I tot you posted just a couple of pages before that you don't buy the idea that GEP is a good route to a decent education at all in the very first place [see red below]. That got me - and apparently some other forummers - all confused as you seem to be saying diff things above. :scratchhead:Melodies:
BTW, I do not even buy in the idea of GEP is a good route to a decent education at all in the very first place. I have seen some 'products' of the GEP before and I know what to expect from them.
My ds confirm mainstreamer ... Now you made me worried he won't get good education. -
I do agree that we had a better educational system in 70s/80s than now. All teaching materials are in the textbooks and good teachers around. We just need to study the textbook, no internet, no exta materials and schools tested what you had learnt in the exams. There are less well-off families who are able to send their kids for tuition or enrichment. Most of the students are on the same level playing field.
Those were the day which you can't use to compare the current situation now as they are no longer valid now.CayennePepper:
Prior to 1983, there was no GEP programme. So there were always brilliant kids out there who were never 'discovered' and 'sayanged' with small class sizes and appropriate material. So what?? Cream floats to the top--usually-- with or without special programmes to cater to their intellectual capacities. Like someone here observed, they won't be lost to society.
My DH was one of the handful of pioneers who rejected the offer to enter the programme. Today... decent job... no tattoo. Once in a while, we debate if he would be more successful now if he had gone through four years of GEP education. He still thinks it was the right choice, though he has not quite floated to the top.

There will always be exceptions and surprises!

No, this is not what I said. I said that MOE provided 'helps/benefits' to GEP program but did not extend these 'helps/benefits' to mainstreams and I think these are good to mainstreamers. It has nothing to do whether I think the current GEP program is a good route or not! I'm supper 'kiasu' and wanted to have a much better alternative route (based on my standard) for my dc and yet get to enjoy childhood.

I hear many discordant melodies.

How true! Especially the part about schools testing what we learnt!
But my point was more related to the 'undiscovered' potentials, both then and now. For the mainstream, unfortunately can't compare wor. -
An illusion of melodies will be discordant melodies in the ‘eye’ of An illusion

Oh I see what you mean now. Me England bad. Took me a while to get what you meant. See, that's why my ds is in mainstream.
But wait a min, if you not sure whether GEP is good ornot, why you want mainstream to copy any part of GEP? Alamak, I confused again! -

You are confused because you assumed GEP program are just these three areas. GEP system is more than these three areas that I touched on.
