A person’s moral values, integrity and apetite for sex, can never be assessed via an interview. If the panel had gone through a proper background checks, calling up of referees, that would have been due diligence done.

If these scholars, lecturers, after being accepted into the NUS law school and started to show their colours, it is not fair to blame NUS. Strictly speaking, they are victim too. Their good name is being tarnished.

Just thinking out loud. Maybe we should abolish scholarships and convert into interest free or low interest study loans.

We will not have bond breakers but genuinely passionate and qualified job seekers to match the positions. No free ride at taxpayers’ expense. Less elite and yaya banana half baked monkeys that take advantage of the system and spit in our faces.

        What do you think?

It’s very sad there is a breed of intelligent people who are going against the law…too smart for their own good…yet nothing can be done…either they lust for sex, favors or fame. The good name of some schools are tarnished in the process.

            phtthp:

think NUS law faculty has seriously made grave mistake ! They picked the wrong candidate(s) as Asean scholar! Somewhere, somehow the selection criteria in selecting candidates stringently to groom them to become Asean scholar... had gone heywire ! Instead of producing a tip top lawyer high expectation from society to uphold moral justice and moral values in our Singapore jurisdical system using our tax payers money to groom him, NUS had churned out someone totally opposite ! Instead, NUS had churned out a crazy sex oriented guy aspiring to fulfill his dream to be some famous star in the Entertainment industry ! This is a laughing stock, disgrace & mockery to the Law society & Faculty !

since this guy had declared publicly in this video in his own words that he is not interested to pursue law & that he had struck it out since Year One, what is NUS going to do next ? I believe that are many more deserving candidates out there, eagerly awaiting for a valuable place of scholarship.

            going forward -
how is MOE and the NUS law faculty going to answer public, to prevent future similar accident(s) from happening, in selecting Asean scholarship ?
They made a mistake in selecting him, but if the law faculty were such effective machines that can 'churn out' a porn star in one year, then all our lawyers will be sex crazed maniacs.

And what's this to do with the Law society? He ain't a lawyer!

Scholarship selection can never be perfect, every organisation that engages in giving scholarships knows it will lose a few percentage to bad eggs.

Despite all the happenings,I still see scholarships having its yields and benefits .
I think scholarships and loans are different things altogether. The scheme of providing interest-free loans are already in place in tertiary institutions.

Scholarships help to relieve the financial burdens of these truly outstanding students. These capable students can also give themselves a pat on the back as obtaining a scholarship confirms that they have stood out among their peers. It will be a glowing testimony of their accomplishments in their resume.
And we have to admit it's no mean feat getting a scholarship and it's the ultimate goal for any of these promising students.
The change I feel that can be included in the clause is- if these students who have benefited so much from the taxpayers, are caught later for anything majorly offensive or landed themselves in any legal trouble, they will need to repay back whatever that was given to them.

              Just my thoughts..

I expect that there must already be such a clause. I can't imagine that there isn't.

I thought so, but when netizens asked for the money to be paid back, this law fella challenged with a \"Why should I?\" and that NUS can't do anything to him..

It's probably dressed up in some vague terminology about 'bringing the university into disrepute' or 'conduct unbecoming' etc. He only studied 1 yr of Law, so maybe he hasn't developed the habit of reading contracts carefully?

😂 Probably. And he thinks law is simple..

An extract from the NUS site..

Terminating the scholarship due to disciplinary offence is stated here, but none on paying back if \"convicted\".

                    9. The University reserves the right to terminate the Scholarship:
                    (i) immediately at any time without notice if the Scholar is found guilty of a disciplinary offence as defined under the University’s statutes or breaches any of the terms and conditions herein;
(ii) immediately at any time without notice if the Scholar's progress is not satisfactory; or
(iii) at any time by giving one month's notice in writing to the Scholar without assigning any reason.

                    10. The Scholar may terminate the Scholarship by giving one month's prior notice in writing.

                    11. If the Scholarship is terminated for any reason whatsoever, the Scholar shall only be entitled to a pro-rated amount of the monthly stipend for any incomplete final month of the Scholarship. If the full amount for the final month has already been paid to the Scholar, he/she must refund immediately the excess amount to the University.

                    12. The Scholar will need to pay the fees for Transfer of Module Credits should the Scholar fails to complete the research programme and wishes to transfer the module credits/grades earned during his/her Scholarship candidature to a Master’s by coursework programme
                    .

I think this Alvin illustrates what can happen when there is no moral boundary in the pursuit of success. I earnestly believe all this sex blog thing is a calculated move by him to put him in the spotlight and therefore putting him in a favorable position to strengthen his prestige and finance. Because of his sex blog thing, people actually read his articles. I won't be surprised if he turns into someone like Robert Kiyosaki. The girl unfortunately is a collateral, but hey, everything is permissible as long the end result is achieved, right?

This is the sad reality of the world we live in. We live in a world where we worship superficial achievements and gloss over character and moral flaws. We can say whatever we want now, but this Alvin guy is going to be very successful and earn loads of money. And our kids are going to ask us why we are against it and why doing the right things may seem to be counterproductive to achieve success.
:goodpost: I agree with your observation.

He is a smart guy, he knows what he is doing.
Notice that he keep bringing up his company whom he set up with the no. 1 scoring peer in his cohort. As you said, the girl is probably a collateral sheep / tool ( pardon the term ).

                        Chick!

Later on... will be old hen. It's just a matter of time. A girl needs inner beauty to survive the ravages of time.
