But agree it is really about luck. I look forward to the day I can be without maids. Now that kids are older, they have become more of a burden as their value-add is diminishing.

My agent advised me not to buy in between tea breaks for maids as they will want in future. Agent also said with Indonesian maids, tell them to fry egg if we eat pork that day...or else cook noodles. If bringing them out, don't start curry puff or whatever other than 3 meals.
Usually I would not think much to get another curry puff or cream puff for maid if I happen to eat...but it really became a habit. My maid told me my 4 year old daughter wanted to eat curry puff or cream puff when we go to IMM...or else Mac sundae.

Yes, need to manage them or they will start taking it for granted that it is their entitlement. My most greedy Indo maid even steals pork and she is aware that it is pork cos all my food storage containers are labelled. And they start getting increasingly discerning so that they will eat more and more expensive food. They even throw away overnight food or show black face if have to eat it. If we also eat it, why can’t they?

doesn't pay to be nice to them...if they don't like the food, they throw away. if they don't get to eat curry puff, i have to see their black face...if they want to eat, buy lah. they have money what.
i pretend not to know they show black face...they get mad. you know what they do, they throw utensils and plates in the sink. i have never scolded my maids, at most firmly.

Yeah lor. Mine is $420 and need to compensate additional $20 for no off day. This is for fresh maid. Will be more for those contracted next year as need to compensate them for 4 off days. Nowadays, very limited biodata available and passport issuance very restricted. If selecting maids with no passport, check the contract termination clause carefully, ie refund of service fees. If maid cannot get passport, they may try to push those with passport or transfer maid to you.

The agency we used to patronize doesn’t want to bring in Myanmar maids as they are not popular. Even indon ones may take long time to come over bcos of passport…or the lack of it. All maids are the same…they are expensive to maintain and will show black face.

You are so right. Pay money still have to suffer. If I show black-face at boss, will get a record for behavioral problem.

Have to feed them and house them.
If they have off day, let them go...when they have to take transport and buy lunch & dinner, then they will know how expensive things are.
I know when they showed black face...but I pretend not to see. I am employer and I have to see their black face.

At first I didn’t give off days to my maid and since I am sending her off , I decided to give her day off to enjoy for a few months . U know what? She demanded 2 off days per mth after 2 outing !

after one year having my burmese maid, I will have to say I am happy to have her than my previous Phinoy maid. My phinoy maid yucked non stop while my burmese maid rarely used the phone when I am around. I asked my elder DS before and he also said seldom see auntie using the phone. My burmese maid likes cooking and she often will try to cook different dishes (she needs to cook twice a day, lunch & dinner). On her days off (i gave her twice a month though she only requested for one), she will wake up early and do all the housework first even though I am okay if she does not do it. I told her she can leave at 10am and she will wait for me and ask okay for her to go out now, then she will leave the house. She never breaks the curfew of 8pm to return back home. Unlike my phinoy who would leave the house before 7am during her off day!

It is true, they tend to be \"slower\" than phinoys as they are from the village and also they are more \"straight\" (they dun beat around the bush). But so far DH and I really have not much complains except she digs her nose openly! 😉 DH often saw it while I never. But there was once I finally saw it and told her nicely and after that she never dig her nose openly anymore 😉

One thing I do feel that it will be better to get e Christian burmese maid. Mine is a Christian from village and she prays everynight, kneeling down. Also sometimes it all boil down to luck whether you get a good one or not. I am grateful to have this current one as my family depends on maid to function cause no grandparents to help look after. Hope she continue to be good 🙂
