      oh is it?? not many ppl can take that... my friend was so depressed...

      it might be of a possible retrenchment for ur case so many ppl just waiting for it... for my friend, it was all of a sudden... she cried in the hr room when it was her turn, just couldnt take it cos of her financial burden with kids...

      retrenchment benefits are just for short term... it is alright if one is single, no financial burden, but with kids all different story...

      hope that for whatever reasons it is, companies who are moving out of sg should give advance notices just to tame the employees or it will be very ugly for them...

          I guess you take the view that businesses and/or their owners are the enemy of workers.

          Has it ever occurred to you that the environment in the company was bad precisely because the business was not doing well? Not everyone is so blase about losing their jobs, and not every closure is greeted with derision like yours.

          Unless we (as in people with g'ment) are willing to work together to keep bringing businesses in, as a small country, we can only say good riddance so many times before everyone leaves town.

              lower land cost, lower labour cost

              driving in and out of JB everyday is no big deal

                It is an MNC.

                It posted RECORD Profits, even during the economic crisis.

                But none of the benefits goes to the workers.

                It is well known for squeezing workers to the last drop. Have you ever heard of $1 annual increment? Yes, the company did that to some of the operators. (forget the lowest was 50cts or $1..) Technician increment ~$20. Company remains profitable.. largely profitable.

                Not sure what is your background and where you came from, but have you ever encounter such companies and experience what some workers went thru? Maybe your company is not like that. But it doesn't mean such companies do not exist.

                Anyway.. take it as one isolate example.. I'm not saying other companies are like that.. I just say I was retrenched before.

                Those who have solid skills and experience would have little difficulties finding jobs.. (of coz more difficult now will all the FTs around). Those who are finding difficulties.. not sure if they were grossly overpaid in their previous employment.. well.. at least maybe they have had fat pay cheques before..

                      some workers due to attitude problem regardless how good they are, deserve zero increment…in fact, must find the right opportunity to let them go without having to pay retrenchment benefits


                      because of their bad attitude, they will also influence the good workers. hence for the larger good of the company, better to let them go as cheaply as possible
