This is only school internal exams, they can set difficult Geog or Hist exam papers,
Do you see the point now? If most of these students are taking triple sciences, then they are stucked with one humanity subject which they are weak at.Augmum:
Fyi, this yr, yr 3, half of the cohort failed Geog, but none failed Hist.....
So i wonder will there be more pupils choosing Hist next yr for their yr 3 subj combination,
while the usual popular subj used to be Geog........
Or raised the std of marking, so as to raise the std of their pupils.....
When comes to the crucial A level exams, over 70% of the cohort could get an A for Geog.
Moreover, no one is so garang to take both Geog and Hist as their double humanities.....(at least not for the current yr)
since there isnt such a class in yr 3.
Eventually, when comes to yr5, many of them would drop both Geog and Hist and opt for Econs.....
Choosing triple sciences or double humanities, has to depend on individuality.....
If pupils are not inclined towards humanities subj.....be it academically or interest,
it is a torture to be forced by the sch to mandatory take up 2 humanities subjs
and to forgo 1 of their stronger science subj which they are likely to do well...... -

Hi,im a p6 student and have applied for dhs dsa.I am now on the waiting list and will have a 50/50 chance of getting into dhs if i list dhs as one of my preferred schools.I am good in all my subjects except chinese. Can i survive in dhs if i get in?
Not too worry lah....not every1 in DHS are good in Chinese lang....
The sch promo criteria does not based on HCL alone.....
It is based on overall GPA and at least a C in Lang Arts. ( note is Lang Arts not HCL).
But still, have to put in effort to obtain a decent grade as not to affect yr overall GPA.... -
Augmum,
Just curious, is Econs offered as a humanities subject in year 3/4 or only at year 5/6? I heard of some schools offering Econs at year 3/4 and thought this is a very route - it actually allows the students exposure to an A Level subject earlier to understand and grasp it over a 4 years period instead of 2 years period. -
Augmum:
I am not sure about secondary school curriculum. I always thought that double sciences and double humanities are the most common subject combinations in sec3/4. It is true in the past and it should even be more so these days since Medicine Faculty has done away with the requirement for H2 biology (which was a prerequisite in the past).

....
Moreover, isn't there English and Chinese literatures (or something similar). And bicultural students etc.... -
Pen88n:
No, no Econs offers in yr3/4.....Augmum,

Btw, which schs offers Econs in yr 3/4, not that few IP schs which i know of...
There is a Financial Literacy course in yr 3 and yr 4
whereby the pupils are exposed to management of money and money related matters..... -

There isnt a class offerring both E Lit and C Lit.....

Even bicultural students dont wanna to take both Lit as double humanitites.... -

Personally I like it as I think Econs is a useful subject for the kids. -

Surely, bicultural students may take, for example, geog and chinese literature? -

Yes, i also ever read abt parents talking abt schs offering Econs in yr3/4 but which are the specific schs, i am unaware of ......
Perhaps becos of resources problems, ( juz my guess) even the few IP schs do not have this option for yr 3 and 4.
That's why DHS's Financial Literary course aim to expose pupils to early Econs and it is taught by external vendors.
