Double E,
I think ASD kids some will know or they learn to play w friends.
In us some even get married n temple graudin has friends too..
I try to google \"autism \" , its too overwhelming cuz so many. So I'm checking if mummies here find any good website to read about autism..that's real helpful.
Yes they will but not as young as your boy, ASD kids will be delayed in this aspect.
In any case, u can ask the experts when your boy enters rainbow. -
slmkhoo,
my son sleep at 12 am & wake up 8am. then nap 1-3pm. so not so bad..
i use iphone apps for dictionary.
KKH physcologist already say my son is ASD although in reports she say PDD-NOS. nevermind , for now he is ASD.
i think most mummies here they are kids are PDD-NOS too now. after i read the websites, thanks.
i jus need more knowledge how to work w my son, like how to talk to him so i wont vommit blood :P.
he is like only oneway traffic, when he want things then he open his mouth. other wise he will not, just come near me ,giggling & play with my face, my hands , hug me & etc.. but no talking of expression.
if he miss me, if i doing things at kitchen or toilet, he will come to me say \"come out\" & pull me out and sit with him...
asking question to him is totally vomit blood. i duno how to explain.. ask him items he know how to answer, ask him others thing he wil get nervous & start scratching his body..
i jus sad that i dun have alot of money, so i can send him to more therapists which i knoe he could progres very much...
maybe GOD know my financial situation, so he is PDD_ NOS but still Autistic lor... -

Double E:
I didn't know the importance of threading until now! All along i was mumbling and feel shortchanged when i saw my girl doing threading in EIPIC. She is clearly struggling with the thread in sequential up and down, in and out of the hole. Looks like i need to practice with her more often at home.
Lavendary
I was nodding my head when I read your post \"I did not even know that I still need to teach my girl the appropriate way of asking for help\". Until I brought my son to his therapy sessions and EIPIC, I never thought I need to teach him how to ask for help, point, learn to grip things with his fingers, sorting, joint attention, threading, tolerate messy play etc. I thought all these come naturally. And then it hit on me that, I cannot expect these things to come naturally for my son because he is different.
Also, I realise how important all these life skills are. For example treading, if he can't do treading, he will have problem operating a lot of things in future and if he can't tolerate messy play now, he won't be able t participate in his art classes when he goes to Pri school. And if doesn't know how to turn and twist a cap, he will have problem opening anything that is bottled next time!
That's also when I realise OT is very important. I didn't send him to OT initially as I was told is just like exercising, so I thought not necessary. Boy! I was wrong. OT is so important to his life skills learning. And I am glad I managed to find a OT who is able to work well with him and identify all the areas that he is weak at.
It is also through all these therapies that I know I should let him do things himself instead of spoon feeding him. For example, instead of me pouring milk into the cup for him, I should let him do it. And I should not be wearing shoes for him all the time, I should teach him the technique and let him try himself. And after he finished his meal, he should learn how to put the utensils away in the kitchen etc.

Above are some examples of why having a professional therapist for your son is important. Because they can highlight issues to us that we don't even realise it ourselves. So when your son goes to Rainbow next year, do keep an open mind and don't be afraid to ask the therapist how your son is doing at the sessions, any issues and tips to address those problems.
The ARC teacher also advised me to start training my girl on how to pour water into a cup herself, wear sock and shoes herself and its high time she needs to self-feed herself, instead of us spoon-feeding her every meal
By the way, wondering which OT centre did you send your boy to? -

Me too, i hate reading. I couldn't remembered when was the last time i ever stepped into the library
However my girl's condition has changed me somehow. I'm still reading mostly from websites cos its more simplified and shorter. Books are still better as they have more information and better explaination.
ARC has a bookshop which sells a good range of autism books but the prices are very steep

Be patient. My 15yo can talk, but even so, she prefers to keep quiet a lot of the time and doesn't really observe what goes on around her. She can go through a whole meal with us and not say anything unless we ask her a question. She's happy to be by herself the whole day if we let her. We have got used to her and just make her join us some of the time. I can't really remember what she was like at 3yo - probably didn't talk much either. One thing you can try is to ask him questions that don't have yes/no answers and get him to answer, even if it's just 1 word. And you can act blur and not respond unless he uses words. But don't overdo it because you may make him more resistant.helplessmum3:
