      hi offering my view :

There is air trapped in Cup A which cannot escape since it does not have a hole on the top. When Cup A is lowered into the water, some water can enter the cup as air can be compressed.

the explanation for such question at p4 level should be 2 marks, with all the 4 groups of keywords in red. not too sure for 1 mark question, but i still get my ds to write the same even if 1 mark question.. many ans could be as long or even longer than this at a p5 level..
Thank you ALL mummies for helping me..... πŸ˜„

my boy got marks deducted for failing to state location of air ...see underline above.
Imho, it is good that the teacher is strict with such details at P4. It helps to develop the habit of being extremely \"specific\" in answers for science, which will save many unnecessary mark loss in PSLE.

          Hi Jedamum,

you are absolutely correct. In P4 marks are deducted if failed to write the \"location of air\". My DD (P5), got the entire question marked wrong when she failed to specify the location/subject etc.... And the students are not allowed to use \"It\" when refering to subject/object etc... , wrong choice of words also mark wrong !! Aiyoh, my DD was so disheartened with her Science practice paper .... 😞

my ds has been taught not to start with "it" at the start of his answer, it is not that they cannot use "it" at all…

My DS doubt for (b) is

The mass of the Plasticine would remain the same.
The volume of the Plasticine would remain the same.

Are both the answers correct? Pl confirm.

              Thx.

                SCGS 2010 SA1 Q9
Question 9) Mrs Gin asked her pupils to observe an insect with a 3 stage life cycle at home and record their observations daily. It will take approximately 10 days for the insect to complete one cycle from the egg stage. Which of the following pupil did not record her observations correctly?

For no 3. - Chui Imm / It ate and moulted / It was active and eating

Answer key is 3. Is that correct?

                Thank you.

hi PiscesLeo, i suppose answer is 4. it says 10 days to complete the whole cycle, so 2 weeks which is 14 days, they should have already completed 1 cycle and in the nymph stage of the next cycle. for nymph stage, it will be active and will be eating, since options 1 to 3 mention \"eating\", \"moulting\" and \"active\" and only option 4 mention \"not eating\", it should be incorrect. so ans should be 4.

Have a doubt here...It stopped eating means....then did it die....Pl explain to me.... :?

Only \"The volume of the Plasticine remains the same.\" is acceptable because the conclusion must be drawn from the experiment. There was no measurement of the mass so we could not come to the conclusion that \"The mass of the Plasticine would remain the same\".

In my opinion, the objective of this question is to test the student's practical knowledge on \"the time needed before moulting can take place\", that is, an insect will not moult just 1 day after hatching. Moulting is to allow the insect to grow bigger because the skin does no grow. Therefore, the insect needs to feed for a number of days to grow first then followed by moulting. As such, option (3) which indicates that it moults 1 day after hatching is definitely wrong because an insect does not moult just 1 day after hatching. Therefore, (3) is the answer since they are asking for the information that is stated wrongly.

The meaning of \"stop eating\" could mean that the adult is dying, already dead... but as long as it can happen, then the information can still be correct.
