Yes, I think watching drama does -help greatly. My boy was with berries for four years too- but never picked up the proficiency in the language due to little daily exposure. Not many chinesep drama appeal to him. We tried journey to the west, but the language used were those olden poetic type. Media corpdrama standard not bad, but some time kindof PG stuff keep popping out. I think I gonna get hk drama dvd for this holidays. ...my boy quite keen on the forensic series,rerun on media corp not long ago.

I am in the same situation, plan to feed DD with more chinese story books and newspaper starting this holiday, hope she won't :siam: from it.

I think watching chinese shows is a great idea too. Any recommendations? I think no need to be educational but must be enjoyable to the kids, and without undue influences. Hmmm... I'm not a fan of mediacorp productions...


My kids only watch okto (we hv no cable) & I'm not a TV fan. In fact, I spend like 1 hr on TV a week? I prefer pc & books.

Some of us might have finished with the P4 SA2 exams and so this long weekend will be a \"free & easY\" one! :imcool:

My P4 DD1 stii has one more paper - Science on coming Monday so this weekend, she still has to brush up some weaker areas and revise the notes one more round. Thankfully, there is this long weekend :please:

I have been reading previous posts and am so thankful for many parents here to share about opting for P5 HMT next year. I have not received any notification letter about it and thus do not know whether DD1 will be offered this additional subject.

DD loves the 7pm show on Channel 8. Don't know the title of the show but it's about some lawyers thingy... Can improve Chinese since she likes the plot BUT the only disadvantage is Mediacorp partnered Malaysian TV production for this movie, and some of the actors' Mandarin pronunciation is not as accurate... So I told DD not to follow their pronunciation.

Sounds interesting, I always love crime (detective or law&order) books and series. Sure the content is suitable for kids tho? Not too violent or twisted or... errr... ehmmm... u know... s*xual...
