      Hi to all SAHMs

This is the first time I come to this thread. I did not know this thread exists till now, blur me!

I like what I am reading here. It's great to be able to share and discuss about life as a SAHM. I am a SAHM too and I must say I'm proud to be one.

I can only sing praises of SAHMs. To me, it is also an occupation, one who never knocks off work or go on leave. We are on call for 24 hours a day for 365 days, (well at least to me if not for others) attending to the needs of our DHs, DCs and the house. It is the most important job in the world. Some of us run one-man shows, no helpers at all because we learn to multi-task and are competent.

We may not be leaders in the world but we are in actual fact directors of our home. We are the directors of finances, directors of information and support, directors of nursing and our children's education. SAHMs are also great leaders in leading our children to walk on the right paths and be there for them full time. The most noble thing about SAHMs is we are not paid for our work yet we undertake our tasks with much diligence, dedication and pride. We are long suffering, sacrificing and selfless, always putting our family members above ourselves.

Yes, SAHMs do not bring home the dough, but hey, money isn't everything. A wise woman builds her house and a house filled with mom's presence, love and warmth is worth more than any weight of gold.

So who dare says SAHMs are not cool? We are Directors of the Home and we demand respect too. 😄

Oh, I forgot to add another feather to my cap…unlicensed doctor. Can’t be running to see doctor everything…so I have medicine for cough with/without phlegm…sore throat, fever, high fever, migraine, diarrhea. Every 6 months, I go to the pharmacy with a list…the pharmacist will give me a ‘what’s going on?’ look.

Money is important, but not the ultimate.
Going to tell my boss one day, I want off day.

Off the shelf cough syrup I use Prospan if didn’t have a chance to go family gp yet… for eg when the GP closes on Sunday afternoon etc. Can purchase from Guardian Pharmacy.

I never gave Woods...for cough which is dry and irritating, I give Actifed. For phlegm, i give flumucil (orange flavored powder mixed with little water)...get from watsons or unity, must go through pharmacist.
Some cough medicine are non drowsy and do not need pharmacist.

I used to give prospan. Not as effective as woods for my kids. Actified dare not try as ds 1 got stomach upset the first time we introduce that. Thanks for sharing!

Yes jedamum, Prospan seem to take up longer recovery time but safe for even babies to use for phlegmy cough. Longer recovery period due to it being a more natural & non-drowsy herb extract as compared to the gp dispensed ones… like trisedyl or dhasedyl which works much much faster but with higher codeine content.

For myself, if I start to get the itch like sore throat or cough symptoms, I go for Nin Jiom plus Dequadin lozenges.

Compatibility of off-the-shelf medz also largely depends on the response of a person’s body to the medz plus the threshold level of pain or tolerance to varying common illness.

My kid was prescribed with ventolin (or zemolin also can. Same ingredients, just different brand) for cough. If there's pheglm, then with mulcosolvan. Works all the time. These can be bought through a pharmacist but don't need doctor's letter.
