slmkhoo:
Ventolin/zemolin is for relaxing the airways, particularly good if the problem is still contained at the upper respiratory tracts. It is not a cough suppressant but neither Is it an expectorant.
If it's your first time taking OTC medicines, it's good to know the generic names of the drugs (most of the names given out here are brand names) and their effects. Not all 'cough' medicines work the same way - some are for soothing sore throats, or thinning phlegm, or relaxing airways. Some cause drowsiness, some are also antihistamines. Make sure you are taking the right kind. Pharmacists will be able to advise.Imami:
My kid was prescribed with ventolin (or zemolin also can. Same ingredients, just different brand) for cough. If there's pheglm, then with mulcosolvan. Works all the time. These can be bought through a pharmacist but don't need doctor's letter.
Mulcosolvan Eases the airways and dilutes the phlegm. Works like flumucil.
None of the above two will cause drowsiness and neither are antihistamines.
I personally feel that going to a pharmacist is only a good move if you already know what you want/need. For my case, my kid has been on ventolin and mulcosolvan (prescribed by pd since infancy) whenever he coughs. So I know when is the right time to use them and how much is the dosage. The pharmacist is only helpful in my case when they run out of ventolin/mulcosolvan and that they could recommend an alternative (which is how I got to know zemolin = ventolin) and show me that both contains the same active ingredients.
I was once recommended actiFied by a pharmacist, which is for dry cough. Not a good recommendation because it was not as if she had done what a doctor would do - check your lungs, throat etc. All she did is asked about the symptoms. I didn't take her recommendation eventually. -
I saw Woods cough medicine at IMM.

Babe, think after some thought... i've pretty much decided to blog abt the journey instead lah. Hopefully can recycle and update the resources needed for my other children later on, when it's their turn.buds,
Maybe you start a new thread or revive the thread on no tuition for PSLE. The response might be better.
I'm here cheering you on :rahrah: becos I want to achieve no tuition too
I'm only aiming 230s T-score, wonder is it achievable without tuition?
Errrmm i have no aim to date. I am just trying to get by steadily and consistently so planning is key. I need to map out the stuff i wanna do with DD and the resources i think is best for her use.... that she can best grasp and apply when she's attempting on her own.
I suppose as for the T-score, i'd have to see how she fares for next year's SA1 first and then set a target for her... somewhere she thinks she can achieve. I am only here to aid her.. guide her.. support her.. in the absence of tuition as $$$ and logistics are quite impossible to get around with 4 children for now. DD is not the motivated type so i have my work cut out for me.
Will see how it goes.
Thanks for your :rahrah:. :hugs:

Thanks for the pointer PiggyLalala! :please:If u are only aiming for 230s T- score, I think it is achievable even without tuition. Just make sure tt the child does not have a particular weak subject, say, low 60, to pull the t score down. Just my view.

Buds, 加油 :rahrah: :rahrah:
Will definitely put that in mind.

Thanks, jedamum. :snuggles:
i want to offer alternative view.
don't just aim for 230s T-score. list down the preferred schools around your area or just the preferred school. if there is a preferred school that takes in 234 or 236 that is just within a few stops or walking distance, would u want to risk getting only 232, 230? 232 also 230s.... so mentally you should have the backup plan for 220s school too. or if your preferred schools are 220s school then personally aim for 230s without tuition - certainly doable.
2 cents.
Can always count on you to think outside the box.
This is good.. this is good.. I'm gonna start asking who has the important thick \"selection\" booklet now... Anyone? :please:

Buds,
You are welcome.
It is scary to think that four 'A’s can only yield a 220s. Risky if you are trying for 230s school. It can also yield 240 in some cases. That’s why a weak subject makes a lot of difference. Some one pointed out earlier.
Janet,
Thanks for the heads up on Imm woods. -
Good morning everyone…I have not visited this site for a long time. Since itz end of exams, time for my own activities. I am a SAHM to 4 kids for almost 10 years…love my "job"and proud of it.

No B or C to yet that 220 min COP. I am not going to think of my younger one yet. -
jedamum:
Yes jedamum, scary indeed. :nailbite: That's why I don't think about that.Buds,

Yet.
I'm more geared towards consistency of revision with ultimately a strong grasp of concept mastery and application technique. Especially since a good memory is not what dd is blessed with (apart from those gazillion pop songs that she can store up in that brain bank of hers.) so must monitor even after mapping out the work to carry out with her.
If I am anal abt those numbers now, I don't think I can help her objectively or.... patiently. :politebleah: I'm also hoping by writing/blogging about the process towards preparing for PSLE, I could also look back and reflect which ones worked and which didn't. Following that, I see that I already have a template I can follow thru or improvise to see myself thru another 3 PSLEs.

Buds, your dd2 is very matured, she will surely be self motivated. Your boys can seek help from jie jies next tim,e too. It is usually the first major exam of the first born that makes us panic.
