True true. And by healthy a chinese physician will look at the state of the internal organs yea? The liver, kidneys, heart etc. hahaI think a lot of parents still want to see their kids with a little bit of meat on their bones. I have learned, being healthy is more important. If the kid is not severely underweight or 'undertall' and is functioning like any normal healthy kid, don't sweat the small stuff.
DD was a tiny gal and rather poor eater when she was younger. She was always below the 50 percentile, be it for weight or height. I get the usual comments like why so skinny, and things like I am starving her and when I restrict her intake of junk food, people tell me she can afford to have them. Thing is, while at one point I did obsess about her weight, was willing to accept height 'deficiency' since DH and I are short, after some time, I realise that though on the smaller side, DD was rather healthy, bright and active. Now at 9yrs old, she is no longer underweight, though she is not that tall, she belongs to the average category and still healthy, bright and active.

Although our height or weight may be determined to a large extent by our genes, there will still be growth spurt. As long as DC eat healthy and exercise, they will have a good chance of growing taller than their parents as DC nowadays are better fed nutritionally.I think a lot of parents still want to see their kids with a little bit of meat on their bones. I was more strict with my kids diet before age 2. I had to jaga the rest of the extended family like a hawk. Mine is a big extended family and the members loved to pop stuff into my kids’ mouths to see their reaction to new foods.
I was more conscious over dietary habits and food intake when my kids were still in preschool. No snacks before meals. Load up on greens and fruits. Routine during mealtimes etc.
Now that they are in primary school, they make their own food choices. I encourage them to try new foods. They know that they can enjoy sinful food, junk food or food but in moderation. From an early age, they prefer home cooked food. Somehow they think of home cooked food as their staple and outside food as extras.
Advertising has limited influence. Family influence is stronger. At least that’s the case for my kids for the moment. -

Everyday, we eat out for lunch and dinner as we are both working. I would have preferred eating home cooked meals as it is healthier but what to do!
But we try to encourage the kids to eat veggies and they somehow are not as adversed as when they are young. -

My girls looked like they would be taller than me as they grew, but the growth just suddenly 'turned off' one day around 13yo, much to their disappointment. One is 2 cm taller than me and the other 2 cm shorter. We are only 153, 155 and 157cm!
Girls stopped growing any taller one year after they start menstruating. So it's a good sign if they can grow as tall as possible before then. -
Dear kwcllf, it cuts both ways. My kids prefer to bring lunch boxes for recess. That means I have to prepare different kinds of snack that will keep till recess. I just put my foot down that they buy their lunch if they stay back for CCA. I would love to eat out during weekends but the rest are not keen. Even on holidays, they ask if we could get a service apartment so we could whip up our own meals!!! But but … Mom’s on holiday too!!
In your case, you could try doing some light cooking during weekends. If you want your kids to love greens, encourage them to shop, prepare and assemble veg & fruit & nut salads. -

For the past 1 month, we had lunch outside on Sunday…dinner is a soup and rice…kids cannot tolerate 2 meals outside as they will be drinking lots of water to quench thirst. I do not know what they eat during recess in school but cannot be controlling too much. They are sick of sandwich, pau and biscuit. Buying own food during recess is a luxury and some independence for them. But I have explained the importance of plain water.
During holidays, we eat fast food almost every Sunday. Thinking of what soup to boil everyday is a headache. -
