qui vive:
The PD didnt do the referral to CEL. Its the psychologist who did the referral for my case.Hi ImMeeMee
Many thanks for your input dear mummy, that's really detailed and helpful!
Does that mean that I can actually be referred to an EIPIC centre by a developmental paediatrician from the private sector? May I ask which private medical centre and paediatrician did you bring your child to? At the moment Dr Janice Wong at Thomson Medical Centre seems to be the only developmental paediatrician I have been able to find in the private sector on the internet but am not sure if she'll be able to refer for an EIPIC centre.
Am a bit lost as I just spoke to a friend who chose to send her child only for intensive ABA and once a week OT, as well as a mainstream preschool and no EIPIC at all.. and she advised me to do the same. My understanding of what goes on in ABA therapy and at an EIPIC centre is only as much as can be found on the internet and can't be used to draw a conclusion fairly at all. But from what I've read the EIPIC centre is the route most mummies take and seems to be effective and possibly more comprehensive at preparing the child for school and for life? Of course, it is also way more affordable than doing intensive ABA. However after speaking to my friend am unsure what step to take next.. Doing both ABA and EIPIC is not really an option as ABA needs a minimum number of hours to be effective so if my child did both that would rule out the possibility of a mainstream preschool which I hear is really important as well. What do you think mummies?
I have not placed my doter on formal ABA so cant comment much. But I understand that most EIPIC centers do not conduct ABA in its truest form, so you may like to consider whether this may be confusing for the child, in addition to the issues that you have raised above.
As for mainstream preschool or EIPIC, its pros and cons. EIPIC offers the structured environment and a tailored program to help the ASD child improve in various aspects, but mainstream preschool provides the social environment that is important for the child to learn to fit in eventually. Some mummies focus on EIPIC and mainstream preschool is an add-on to support the child's social development (that's me), while others do the vice versa. Based on my own circle of parents with ASD children and what mummies here generally say, some form of EIPIC is good for the child.
I have pmed you some information as well. Do look out. -

Haha! If u read back the post I actually throw awy the reports.
Yap ASD already ASD what . -
lavendery:
Maybe u and Helplessmum met the same psychologist? Lol. At the same centre?helplessmum3:
Lavendary ,
Same price shd hav iq test . U check the report.
What is yr girl diagnosis ? Exact diagnosis .
Now then I know there are few types of ASD. Asper. PDD , HF, classic.
To identify they need to combine w iq test
The KKH psychologist never indicated in the report. During the 2nd appointment with the KKH psychologist about the assessment diagnosis outcome, I have asked her at least twice what category of ASD (eg mild, moderate or severe) my girl was at. The KKH psychologist told me ASD means ASD, there's no such things as category.
Hence in the report, it just indicated that she is on the spectrum. Which spectrum, no idea? I guess maybe because she didn't test my girl on IQ, that's why she is unable to state the category my girl falls at? Pay subsidized rate, so get subsidized standard and subsidized report
The report had a few typo errors and some information were wrong too. In the report, she typed my girl is presently studying kindergarten 1 *sigh* My girl only 3yrs+, how to study kindergarten 1? :slapshead:
Hence the report was really not accurate and I'm wasn't sure if I should contact the psychologist to redo the report or not. Anyway I chucked away the report cos it's really pretty useless and inaccurate :scratchhead:
Mine was ok. Done in KKH itself and not in any of the other centres. She did say its high functioning. Mine also subsidized so it's really the prof of the psychologist. U should have asked her to rewrite. Or report her to her boss. It's unprof to write the wrong stuff. A 3 yr old and a k1 kid has different milestones and yardstick. If she based her assessment on your gal being a k1 kid, then it will be totally off the mark. -

mashy:
Of course the psychologist will have to talk to u. This is history checking. Coz they have not seen your boy grown up so only u know what has happened over the past 3 yrs. obviously she needs to ask u about it. I'm sorry, but I feel that u have been so negative over everything.helplessmum3:
Mashy ,
Kkh physcologist use \"bayley scales\",
It's say my son is above average of his peers .
For the 3 out of6 I roughly recall is no index pointing , no share interest , no eye to eye gaze..
Double E,
Total 8pages . How can I possible ready ,each page full
House of wordings ,Tat time I devastated
Within the 3 hrs assessment more time are spent on talking to us.
Real assessing my son is just bit here n there n she just conclude
Only the cognitive test , then. She do w my son but also very shibily.
She is very lazy can tell one.
Just want to get report out and closed her case kind .
Old woman as expected very numb to work already.
The report is called \"physcologist report \" is it consider diagnosed report .
\"pervasive development disorder-not otherwise specific which also know as Autism spectrum disorder \"
I wrote some where for tis.
Negative about your son's condition such that u think he isn't performing well when he is actually doing very well for an autistic kid.
Negative about the psychologist and u think she's just plain lazy. U didn't even bother reading the report.
Negative about the therapists that you pull your son out of all therapies because you think that they are not doing their job.
I may sound harsh, but really, I hope u will see the light. If u are depressed like your hb is, get help. U and your hb need help, seriously.
Not that I'm saying these professionals are fantastic or what, just that they are also doing what they have been doing for years. They have loads more experience than u. Open your mind and go thru it together. You may not believe what they are doing, but go thru it anyway. So far what I see is that U think the whole world is against you. Be it the childcare centres, the therapists, the psychologists even your son. Something isn't right. It is not just your hb who needs help. U need it too.
I think u really should see a doctor yourself. This week is e mental health week and there's a lot of promotion on it.
I hope u get well soon. -
Lavendery, care to share who is the psychologist who assessed your kid? And which Kkh Pd manage your case?

Yrs at outram . My at st Andrew -
Yups, my KKH psychologist is at Outrum HPB. She looks a bit older than me. I cannot remember her name cos I do not know where I put the psychologist report.
But the KKH PD at KKH CDU was very good, even though I paid around like $30 (subsidized rate), the consultation took as long as 1hr+. She was very patient and she asked a lot of questions and she also assessed my girl. I forgot her name too
If I ask the KKH psychologist to redo, I'm scare I might be asked to pay again. Maybe later I give a call to Outrum HPB to enquire.
Mashy, you are so lucky to meet a good psychologist! My KKH psychologist did not mention any strength of my girl at all. Throughout the 7pgs of report, first pg is my girl's background, 2nd page is what she has observed about my girl, 3-6pg is what I have told the psychologist about my girl (it's putting my words into report) and last page is conclusion.
Throughout the report, there's typo error at almost every pages and first page is already wrong background information. Hence I did not photostat and give to my girl's PCF principle. I already knew my girl is ASD, but I want to know which part of the spectrum and what we could do to help her, nothing was stated. I feel so short changed, somemore it costed me $245 -
If its a blatant mistake, they have to redo. Complain to the boss! How can they assess a 3 yr old thinking sheโs 5? Then any kid will sure be autistic.

Is your psychologist this lady call Huan Cui?
My boy is seen by her, and I think she is around my age too. But during our visits, she does gives me tips on how to manage him. So not sure if is the same person that assess your daughter.
And yes, if the psychologist is assessing your daughter thinking that she is K1, then you should raise it and ask for a review.
But just curious, when they passed the report to you, did you not look at it on the spot and notice the mistake?
Hmm, based on what you mummies have described, I am now thinking if I should send my son of assessment by a private psychologist instead. But is very expensive, I think around $2000, a lot of difference compared to the subsidized rate.
