In order to do well in A Maths, the student needs to master the concepts in E Maths.

Topics in E maths which are further applied in A Maths include:
- Algebra
- Inequalities
- Indices
- Coordinate geometry
- Trigonometry
- Matrix
- Angle properties of circle
etc

Hence, it is crucial that students have a strong foundation in E Maths to do well in A Maths.

In addition, 2 of the most important new topics in A Maths are Differentiation and Integration as they carry a lot of weightage in the O level exams.

Congrats for taking A Maths! Having said that, some students will struggle with A Maths as compared to E Maths. Why? For E Maths, it's a continuation from sec 1 to sec 4 Maths, so the concepts are easier to relate and understand. For A Maths, you will be introduced some brand new topics and the questions may not be as straightforward.

Nevertheless, as long as you adopt a positive learning attitude and make effort to understand the underlying concepts and logic, together with lots of practice, you can still do well in A Maths.

Hi,

A math is not as difficult as you think. For my students, they feel the same way as you do intially, but after many practices, they realise that A math is a formatted type of subject, where questions set are always similar. The ways in which question can change is only the way which they phrase which makes it slightly tricky for students to grasp. But overall, my students prefer A math to E math as topics like number pattern, probability etc in E math is unpredictable.

It is much easier to score in A math than E math as the marks for A1 for the former is lower. Fret not, I always believe for math, practice makes perfect. Start with making sure that your algebra is strong so that it lays a good foundation.

If you are a careless student, make sure to eliminate it asap! School exam papers are always good for you to practice after you had grasp the topic well. That's what I would prepare for my students, instead of conventional assessment books. Moreover, 50% of both Paper 1 and Paper 2 could be secured easily as long as you check your work. That is an estimated statistic which I had tabulated among all the school exam papers and O Level papers which I have done.

The only topic you need to worry in A math is only geometric proof. If you can tackle this well, this will be a big bonus.

(b) angle DBC = angle BCP (alt angles)
tan angle DBC = 15/20
angle DBC = 36.9 degrees = angle BCP

Area of triangle BCD = 1/2 x 15 x 20 = 150cm^2
Find the length of BD => 25cm (Pythagoras’ theorem)
Use common area of triangle:
1/2 x BD x Vertical Height = 150
1/2 x 25 x h = 150
h = 12cm
