When the monthly bank statement arrives, I'll tabulate into the spreadsheet to keep track. My DH trust me 100% so he won't bother to check or see the statement. His job is to issue a cheque to our joint a/c when I ask him to.verykiasumummy:
We have a joint a/c and it is 50/50 for all expenses. Hubby will give me a lumpsum, say $20K for that a/c. Once it is running low, I'll remind him to top-up. All household expenses are managed by me, unless big items, then we'll discuss. We don't monitor or discuss our personal a/cs.
this is a good way, to give a lump sum and u will ask for more when it is running low... only thing is, do u monitor how long it takes to use up the whole amount? will ur dh justify the way u use it?
it is still good to hv a rough idea of how much each of u have in ur personal acc... just incase any big expenses is needed, like hospital/medical (touchwood), and u wun need to pinpoint at each other to ask why so low and this and that..
Our personal a/cs, shares, bonds, FD, etc are meant for individual. Roughly we know each other's amount but it is strictly oneself's money, hence the other party cannot pinpoint why his/her money is so little, etc. We give each other a lot of space. In case we need a big sum for certain item, then we'll both top up the equal amount into our joint a/c.
I guess end of the day, whatever in our personal a/cs will go to the kids and spouse but at the moment, we like to handle our finance this way.
this is a very good example of handling ur financials between each other and mutual trust given to each other.... there r too many other things to worry in life, dun let money matters get in the way... -
We opened a joint account where each of us make a monthly contribution - the ratio of contribution is the ratio of our income. So hubby will contribute more. All expenses for the household and family will be paid from this account - incl credit card bills, childcare, maid, groceries, utilities, etc. We are not into things like branded goods, bags, shoes, or jewellery; and invest our savings accordingly.

yeah, life is too short to nip-pick at each other. -

If wife earns more than hubby, would you still do a ratio split of the contribution? -
mummy of three:
What is the minimum you think DH should give to DW is she’s SAHM?
it depends on how many kids and if there's maid or in laws living together. -

its good to have a joint account like this.. bear in mind that u still need savings which are a few times your monthly salary, and i would say the minimum of $10k is recommended for emergency purposes... -

if dh earns much lesser than dw, i would say dw will have to contribute more.. esp when dh is blue collar and dw is white collar.straffan23:

in another scenario whereby both dw and dh are white collars, even dw earns a bit more, it doesnt matter that much whether she contribute more..
its all about whether their contributions are enough for the household, not about who give more.. -

:goodpost: yup. once too calculative and penny counting, problems might creep in.

we have three accounts.one my DH’s salary goes to.one for his expenditure, one for my expenditure.so now its very difficult chase the records.
pre have two.I used the one the his salary comes in.When I deduct from that account I more cautious.I can chase easily and save more.now he transfer the money each month. So my thinking is like I can spend this money for this month,I am not concern for saving.I told this to my DH.but he refused to do so.He said just see three accounts every month.
The wife willing to save or see the money goes up(save more) it make us to spend less.just my thought.I am sure if my husband let me to save his money it will definitely saves more.Recently I checked his account some transactions he is not aware of.need to check with bank.If I use his account to spend I always check where the money goes. -

Exactly. We have a 50/50 joint a/c and in the good old days, I was earning more than DH but contribute 50%. I was retrenched a few years ago and now earning much less than dh but still contribute 50%. So long as I can afford, I'll share equally the cost with DH.
