School Policy : MC on exam day
-
If we don’t test, how to gauge student’s standard/progress?
If miss a small test, still okay… but if it is major end-of-year exam, the sch should allow a re-test. -
In dd’s school, a retest is scheduled if a child returns to school with a valid mc within 2 days from test date. Which is why in our school, teachers are not supposed to discuss the answers/return the test papers to students within the 2 days period.

Depending on the schools, gauge base on their whole year's work. DD's school does not have any CA but they have topical tests, those can be used as a gauge. Anyway, there are more exams the following year and the year after that, until PSLE. And after that, is another phase with more exams. If we don't test, how to gauge student's standard/progress?

I am fine either way, re-test or no re-test. More importantly for me is how the child handle whatever the school's policy. If they are really very affected and feel that their effort in preparing has gone to waste, I will try to get hold of the exam paper and let them do the paper at home. If possible, I may get the teacher's help to mark the paper just to get the marks. Doesn't matter if it is not included in the report card, at least, my kids know how they fare. -

If the sch is no exam like your case, then it is fine. if it have exams, then, the kid should be allowed to resit for the exam, as simple as that.

My kid is not affected. I guess they never study for it either. But I want them to take the test so that I can gauge where they stand. because sometimes they did ok for homework but test results very difference.
But your had a good suggestion.
Maybe I can try to get the exam paper and get them to do. -
