All About A Levels

Valerie Teoh:
I have classmates who are currently renting a room outside, living all on their own. My friend from China used to rent a room from a friend when she was in secondary school, but now my school has boarding facilities, so she's staying in boarding school. She said it's much much more convenient and she doesn't have to cook and all that anymore. So yeah, you can consider renting a room. If you're afraid, maybe you can ask your friends if anyone has a room to spare and rent from them.
HELLO Twilight
Thanks for the advices. Hmm, after reading it, JC really seem to be TOUGH!! :yikes:
Is true that with CCA and stuff like PW and school work I might end up going hoe at about 9 or 10 sometimes, which is OMG! :scared: Perhaps you're right, I should maybe like \"try-out\" to stay in a hostel or rent a room (Something along this line), be more independent! Will talk to parents about this and see what are their views (On finance also lah, not that rich. haha! Anderson's hostel not that cheap after checking with their office's staff and curfew is somewhere 9pm for weekdays)
Will consider really carefully. :thankyou: -

I think a hostel environment would be more suitable. You can check out CJC hostel as well.

I got a few ques that I want to ask regarding JC. Someone help me thankyouverymuch
What time do JC normally starts and end school? (Esp MJC)
Is Econs H2 hard?
If get B3 for HMT o levels, should I drop cl in alevel or should i continue?
Disadvantage of continuing and not continuing.
When is the first day of school for JC? I mean like after you got ur o level result.
What is the most impt thing to look for when choosing JC?
Is it wise for a 5 points scorer to go to a 9 point school?
THANKYOU ONCE AGAIN -
1) Usually starts about 7.30 and ends anytime from 2 to 6, depending on your combi and CCA commitment
2) Econs is something O level students never touched before, but given that so many people take H2 Econs nowadays if you do your TYS and study properly it should be fine. Econs at A level is hardly as analytical as history nor nuanced as lit anyway. Similar to geog in terms of skills needed.
3) No need to take H1 CL in JC if you passed O level HMT. No disadvantage not to take.
4) 1st day usually in early Feb or so.
5) Depends. Location, programs offered, CCA offered, subject combi offered.
6) Good thing about 5 point sch is that you likely have abit more special opportunities and support for scholarship/overseas U applications not offered to mainstream JCs. Bad thing is more competition. So up to you. In the end if you want to go to local U (or UK arguably) its only grades that matter, so doesn’t matter which JC you go to. if you want to aim for scholarships or US unis, then you need the CCAs and everything else. -
Hi all.
Can 3 points get into Hwa Chong/Raffles? Like 7 points minus 4 bonus points. I heard it’s only partial? -
Yeah it’s partial. 6-3 is given more priority than 7-4. You can appeal if you can rejected though. Helps to have good CCA track record or leadership positions etc if you’re appealing.

Possible but depends on how well the cohort for that year performs. There have been cases where 4 pointers also got in after submitting appeals. All the best!Hi all.

hello forumers. i live far away from every jc and there's no direct bus to any of them within walking distance. That means i probably have to take mrt+bus or bus+bus switchings in the early morning and after school, both times when im confirm super tired...Does anyone face the same problem as me? Is buying a car the only way?
How i wish i can live at the hostel or have a school bus to pick me up like in pri sch...i've personally experienced how tiring it is to keep switching transportation in secondary school and was hoping for a change in JC, but no such luck apparently. How do you cope with such an issue? especially when you have to go home in the evening now and squeeze with people on the public transport :nosebleed:
