Whoa! Way to go double e.
Academy to our kids always not really a issue… It’s memory power.
gladly at least they some strength .rather then don’t .
Ya I also try to observes what are my son strength … So far know he good in puzzle and I know his IQ is definitely higher n even have dynamic thinking n problem solving . As they are weak in speech so then tends to figure out themselves rather then simply ask…
Ask n get answer , is easy forget. Think n solve yr own u can remember better. -
I think most our kids here are aspergers…when they grow older
For now due to age so is PDD-Nos -
Helplessmum
I don’t know whatever makes u think they will get worse as they grow older. So far I’ve only seen my son getting better. Perhaps it’s those who leave their kids to live and die on their own will see them getting worse.
He still stands out from the other peers. But the gap is narrowing. And I’m happy with that progress. Previously, he stood out by hiding in the group and staying in a corner. Now he stands out by talking at inappropriate times. I’m rather happy (though a bit embarrassed) when he did that. Coz at least he is no longer keeping himself in the shell. Now it’s just to teach him when is a good time to talk and when isn’t.
I can only say, u don’t know how lucky u are. At least your boy will still look up and smile to the stranger. That’s acknowledging that person’s presence. U haven’t had the experience of your kid living in his own world even when there are people close by. And these people aren’t even strangers.
And I also dunno whatever gave u the idea that PDD NOS is given to your son because of his age. It’s because he didn’t fulfill all criteria to be labelled ‘autism’. -
Thanks Mashy ,
I search again n found this. U right right. Sorry I always miss out reading some points.
PDD-NOS is often called atypical autism,[4] because the criteria for autistic disorder are not met, -

I should be really grateful & I am. He has no problem academically, does not have disruptive or awkward behaviors, he's socially aware & I've even seen him play appropriately with peers with back & forth talking.
in what way u feel your son is not responsive to social class?
I just get disappointed when I see him in social class. Although He response and follow instructions well. But he seems to fidget alot more, like he will do a break dance while sitting down & he looks away while the teacher is talking. Strangely, he sits very still in school. Or when I see how he give very weak response to friends who make effort to talk to him, I feel sad too. My heart sink whenever he shows no regard to his younger sister while all my friends' kids would play or take care of my daughter.
I know I should be counting my blessings. But you know, when you have $2, you want $5, when you have $5, you want $10. -
Not sure if you guys are following this blogger.http://parenthots.com/features/Strokes-of-a-gifted-child.aspx But her son is a very intelligent child however he cannot conform in a typical classroom setting. He was suspected to have aspergers but the dr in Msia was hesitant to label him. He's currently considered as gifted. It makes me think maybe here in spore, the PD Drs are too quick to diagnose a child as having autism. I'm quite certain If this boy was seen by our Drs in spore he would have been quickly diagnose to have aspergers since he's showing signs like not able to sit in classroom settings, have strong English Lang & always talking about his fav topics.

Take courage! I can understand your stress and tiredness, it is not easy indeed! But then again, your boy really is one smart kid and am happy you managed to find a new kindy/CCC for him already!
To give yourself more mental energy and strength, please look at the positive side and really count all the GOOD POINTS and TALENTS of your boy. At the same time, to encourage your husband to lift him out of depression, you MUST also point out all the GOOD aspects of your son to him, so that he won't fall into despair too!
Husband and wife got to encourage one another so that when one is down, the other must be there to be positive to pull everybody up again. I thank God that in the beginning when we listen too much to psychologist/doctors/therapists the bad points even I get a bit into despair but my MAID (can you believe it?) told me firmly to take a look at the worksheets and Kumon workbooks that my boy has done faithfully every day. She told me \"Mam...have you taken a look at what boy has done today?\" I said no, boy something wrong. Maid said \"Mam...boy nothing wrong...he is smart, he can do this, this, this, this, this. Kid with problems cannot do all these!\".
So actually it was my maid who lifted me up and I repeat what she said to my husband and lifted him up too.
So helplessmum, we all think your boy really is not bad. So you should tell that to your hubs too. Encourage him, no choice, you have to be the strong one.
Jia you, come here to vent it is OK, we all support you!

Don't know leh. I think it's good to get the child check early only because it helps parents to know the child's condition better & how to get help. Honestly, I don't understand why parents say 'I don't want to label my child'. It's not about putting a label, it's about finding out what's wrong with our child & getting the help he needs. I find it quite strange parents would readily call their kids 'smart, gifted' but isn't that a form of label too? To me, getting the diagnosis is not about labeling, it's about identifying the problem. -

I agree with u, it's about identifying the problem. Which was why I sent my boy for a diagnosis too. Label in itself is just naming the condition. Yet, I do not want others who may have a hand to decide his future know too much. Coz other pp see thru another set of eyes. ESP if u are talking about the future. Who knows what the future holds? Just want a fair chance like any others to study and hold a job.
