don't worry. it is more like a roller coaster ride.
Roller coasters are unhealthy for my aging heart. Carousel rides are more my cup of tea now. Mabbe next yr I go email all the HODs to remind them not to set P5 std for P3 level - it's bad for parents' health, hehe.

Btw even at P2 level, the marking for OE Compre is already set at PSLE std - a minor error will get you zero for the whole qn, no sympathy marks for half-right ans whatsoever. I think a couple yrs back, a parent wrote to ST to give \"feedback\" on this issue too.

Personally I think setting a high benchmark early is good in the long run. Our kids will be trained to write concisely and accurately from lower pri onwards - especially useful for my careless gnome of a son. 😄

perhaps you would like to train your heart to be resilient by going for more rides at universal studios  when my son was in p3, the marking for science was already geared towards psle...when hubby asked teacher why answer wasn't acceptable, she just replied, 'not in line with psle standard'.

It seems only yesterday I was here teasing at other parents' expense (who were quite kancheong abt SA2 and such), hehehe. I could afford to simply go with the flow bcos P1 result doesn't really have any impact wrt streaming mah.

This yr SA2, not fun at all for me. I also don't like the idea next yr got 3 exams instead of 1.

Hi, my son is in L9. It seemed like he did badly in SA2 for science and Chinese comparing to his SA1 results. I can feel that my son lost motivation in the second half year. Now he told me the highest score in Chinese is 85 /90, but he only got 72 /90. I felt so difficult to drive him now as he told me most of his friends have such marks. Science paper 2, highest 30+/40, but he got just 23 / 40 and told me most of students are like that. I really felt worried now. How far he will slip in the list in P6 final? The attitude really counts. He is dumb to scolding now. How to motivate him? He stay alone at home every afternoon. No pressure at all now.

            Welcome.

I think most of the P5 pupils on this thread are from Loy9. I hear the same set of information from my boy.

Frankly, I am into panic mode after hearing his results for MA and HCL papers.

The only consolation is this round he passed his EL OE compreh (after days of intensive coaching) and he did well in his NC MCQ (only 1 qn wrong, after consistent practices since start of semester 2).

Since start of semester 2, he has been practising HCL and NC assessment books. He managed to get all correct answers. So imagine my shock when he came back home and told me he did not know any of the 语文应用 in the HCL paper 2. True enough, he failed this section 0/10 and paper 2. I do not know how else to help him in HCL.

MA has always been his strongest subject but this round he mis-read some questions. A supposedly 90+ turns out to be 80+.

Sci - I expected him to fail section B. True enough, he failed. What frightens me is he told me many questions are unfamiliar. Whatever happened to understanding and applying the concepts? If he is unable to do this, then he is in deep trouble.

That same day I logged into KSP and checked out reviews of Science tuition centres. Found one at True Learning Centre @ Jurong area. The centre is starting its Headstart P6 class this Fri 7.30pm. I will be checking out this centre.

Hope you find a way to motivate your child. Scolding is unlikely to help.

Most are from Loy9, I must be the minority ;-), my girl is in L8.
Bad mummy (ie me) cannot rem her results, now I am like her... 1ear in, 1ear out... Roughly remember, only Math improve, all the rest :yikes: esp Sc & CL !!!
Waiting for report book to reveal status ...

I am most guilty of scolding + caning as her attitude was horrendous (this word learnt fr her), not just on study, to everybody in the family (only does not apply to 吃喝玩乐)

For this whole year, it is a nightmare... daddy is begging me to quit work for past few mths to \"take care (manage)\" her... hahahahaa....
Hoping & praying for better yr in 2013

Though I may have walked through it, every child is different.

If the kid failed the HCL in P5, will he be able to choose HCL in P6?

I posted the same question to the CL teacher.

Her answer : the decision is not cast in stone yet for those pupils who did not fail too badly. There will be a meeting to discuss, taking into consideration the performance of other subjects and the child's attitude during lessons.

Thanks Jennifer. My son is the one who is 俳徊在及格边缘for his HCL. But we do hope that he would be allow to choose HCL in P6. Otherwise, he will totally give up his CL.

I told him to confirm with her again if he sees her today.

Scary and I would like to organize our annual BBQ gathering at Toh Yi.

Everyone connected to PH, remotely or otherwise is welcome. That means ex-P6ers, current P6ers, current geppers, new geppers, current students, new students [2013 P1 intake] are free to join. We would like to fix the date at 1-Dec (Sat) as it’s hard to find a perfect timing for everyone.

                    The list of volunteers are:

                    (1) Scary - book BBQ pit
                    (2) FQW - drinks

Come, come, come and join us. Let’s keep the PH Spirit alive. Afaik, we’re the only parenting group here that holds gathering of such scale.
