i used to be quite happy when i got dd’s result for P1-3 but come to P4 when her FT share more info with us, we have some kind of mixed feeling…
the reason is her FT shared where dd stands for each subject with reference to her whole level…
like SA1 her CL about low 90s, she is at the mean or middle or 50% mark of the level…
then her SA1 Sci about mid 80s, but she is actually at the top 25% mark of the level…
we are quite confuse with all these additional info… does it mean we need to push her more for CL and be happy with Sci? anyway we still let dd continue her usual study pattern and didn’t change much to dictate her which subject to focus more…
her SA2 results is not much diff as SA1… but coming PTM we will get that mixed feeling again… -

on the contrary, i like these feedback. grades are useless to me with no point of comparison. my husband however think otherwise...but that was last Semester! son got 80s for chinese but below class average, husband said good already as we should look at overall score. this round son got 90s for math but we have a hunch that it is either class average or below, husband said not good enough! lol! he is the math tutor, hence he is concerned.i used to be quite happy when i got dd's result for P1-3 but come to P4 when her FT share more info with us, we have some kind of mixed feeling....

for me, my concern is the rate of which marks drop. i expect marks to drop, but the drop had to be reasonable. sudden drop of 8-10 marks raise a warning alarm and class average will show us how difficult the paper is...if low class average, then we are safe, if high class average, we have to do analyse what went wrong. -

My dd called me to update me on her scores for english (pp2) 73% & maths 78% ......i dont like the \"7\" infront...i used to be quite happy when i got dd's result for P1-3 but come to P4 when her FT share more info with us, we have some kind of mixed feeling....

I must correct myself..... as long as she has put in her effort (although i dont think she had put in ALL her effort) i must look forward and not backward :please: -
I went for PTM this morning, glad DD has done reasonably well to be offered HCL, but understand from MT trs that HCL emphasizes primarily on compo writing and compre, can be challenging for those without strong foundation in Chinese though meet the requirement. To take up or not, have to make a decision by next week.
In the meet up, I thought it was thoughtful of DD’s FT to casually remind parent not to be overly concern when marks suffer the well-known dip to below 90 in P5. -
I guess standards really differ a lot between schools.
In dd's neighbourhood school, we are not given formal statistics about class or cohort' results.
However, based on the informal grapevine news, only about 5 students scored 90% for CL in last SA1. (No news yet for the the recent SA2.) -
Dd got back all the main papers on Thu. I had looked thru n signed them n they were returned to school by Fri. Lucky for her, she did well enough to avoid going for tuition next year
Next 2 days are admin days but unfortunately for her, she's down with fever and feeling rotten. Looks like she'll be using these 2 days to recuperate instead of playing n eating her favourite foods, the poor girl!
As for HCL, she'll probably be offered despite getting 8/15 for compo. Had sounded out with her chin teacher after SA1 abt dropping it but she sounded disapproving abt the notion. Probably dd will take it up since most of her class is going to do it, n she likes to be part of the crowd. Sigh... Just don't like the idea of staying back in school for more days... -
dd’s school implemented a new PTM system this year… not all parents need to attend the PTM… only if the teacher wants to meet the parents or vice versa… and i’m not attending this year…

:congrats: on good result.
I understand from DD's FT that HCL will be embedded within CL lesson so no more staying back in school specifically to do HCL :please: but the usual supplementary class for CL will be stretched by another hour, seems no diff :scratchhead: -
:congrats: to all 2002kids and parents who are satisfied with their SA2 results!
I've been mulling over the idea of helping our kids improve in composition this holidays, before P5 homework crashes like a wave over them. I would like to seek the opinion of other members of this this 2002 thread on this idea : someone poses a composition topic (on anything, can be a picture composition or a situational compo), we ask our kids to do the compo, then we post the child's compo up on line for other forumers to edit, critique and offer suggestion on. Compositions are a personal thing, and I know it can hurt of have one's best efforts criticized, but if we can keep the remarks objective, we may be able to help each other's kids in compo.
Cheers! -

just look at how the maths thread works, it is doing an excellent job in solving all kinds of challenging questions for parents as well as students... to do the same for compo, first we need to have a volunteer who is an expert in creative writing to really provide objective remarks... i must say not everyone is good (like myself that's why i need to outsource) in compo and can give good comments.....
there should be a specific thread for compos/level and let the expert/s (not too many just 1 or 2 at most) comment....
