Today spoke to my son’s new teacher in his CC. She just joined like 2 months ago and I spoke to her about my son. She say my son now talks more and he actually can read all the words in her reading list. Finally he has a good teacher in the NT environment.

His prev teachers, I told them that my son can read very well, can use scissors, can do matching and worksheets. The prev teachers doesn’t know he can do that. And when he cut out the shapes with scissors nicely, and match the animals feet to their heads in the worksheets, they were like "Wow he can actually do that, he knows leh".

I was like OMG, my son is ASD, but he is not dumb leh.I think the teachers doesnt know what ASD is… sad but true… Praying hard he keep meeting good teachers along the way.

I think most people’s idea of asd is the more severe type. I always thought asd is being completely withdrawn, cannot talk, cannot respond etc. That’s why I was shocked when the development dr suggested sending my boy for assessment. So can’t blame their reaction, as you say, it’s lack of understanding.

Yes, before ASD came into my life, I also thought it is very severe or is about mental retardation. Only after I learn more about ASD and through my boy, then I realise there's different forms of ASD from very mild to severe and I thank God for its blessing that my boy is on the milder end of the spectrum.

Same, I also thought ASD is the severe type where they hide in corner and keep rocking... Ya its a blessing our kids are the high functional type.

                    Mummies

If anyone of you haven’t tried music therapy, maybe can give it a try. My son was on it intensively for about 1 mth plus, I noticed that he can respond slightly better than before and when I ask him what did he do in the day, he can relate. Though not totally accurate and there’s still missing details, but at least he can say something now and some of it are accurate.

Like yesterday, I ask him what did he do at his OT, he can tell me. Then I ask him after OT where did he go, he can tell me he went to Dr Gavin (for his neuro). When I ask further, he told me he went to sit on the see-saw at the playground. I later validated it with his daddy who was with him and most part of it were accurate.

Then last week, when I was away, my sis and her husband helped me to bring him to his lesson at Berries. He can tell me he sat on bus service 123 so I asked him who brought him to take the bus, he can tell me is my sis and her husband.

Hope to see more positive progress from him.

However, I realise that he likes to hum to himself recently especially when he is playing with his train. And I asked him what sound is he making, he said he is doing the train sound. But I just find the humming a bit disturbing as it seems to be his another stimming activity. Hiaz, first is visual stim, now this. It is his stimming activities that really disturb me and makes him look different from NT kids. I truly hope no more of such stimming activities emerging.

Many people hum. Nothing wrong with that. 🙂

Been really busy settling the bully case. The bully did it again. And worse thing is that his parents condone it and unapologetic about his actions. Really pissed with them. Have not seen such bad parents yet. Finally got that bully transferred out of the class next year. Hopefully no more from him and his nasty parents. That’s why I firmly believe, whatever the parents are, the children grow up like them. If u allow your kids to do anything they want, including hitting others, then someday, there will be retribution.
