        Wow Trina mummy...

so envious that ur kid so disciplined and proactive... mine just can't wait to watch more TV more playtime etc etc...

Can't wait for bookfairs or discount coupon from Popular to buy more assessment books for next year! heehee

A question for all... need ur advices :
If ur Kidy can choose whether to take HIGHER chinese... would u if she usually get 70s - 80s marks? I know it's more for them to take Higher Chinese in Sec. School for SAP school... but if not.. what help does it give to the kid?

        TIA!!!
hcl is not offered in Sap schools only, non sap schools offer hcl too. if yr child gets a pass in hmt o level, then he/she doesnt need to sit for cl at a level, freeing up time so yr child can focus on other a level subjects. that is according to moe's
requirement. (some sap schools however set more stringent criteria for themselves, like
rvhs requires min b4 in hcl, so do take note ) for those on o level route, u can
get 2 pts deducted from yr scores if u take hcl in sec, but i dont know what is the grade u have to get for hcl.

forgot to add this, eligibility to take hcl in sec sch is NOT based on whether your child has taken hcl in pri sch though. to be eligible for hcl in sec sch, yr child has to be

          a) in top 10% for psle score OR
          b) top 11% to 30% for psle score and with a* in normal cl or merit in hcl

So, technically speaking even if yr child did not take hcl in pr sch, he can still take hcl in sec schools if he mets the requirements. (although taking hcl in pri sch may help to bridge the gap if he decides to take hcl in sec sch?)

so if take HCL but get merit but NCL get A only, can still take HCL in sec sch if top 11-30%, right?
for my son's sch, the schedule is such that all students taking HCL needs to stay back on Mondays. students taking NCL also need to stay back on Mondays for supplementary. so i wonder if it is more worth it to take HCL as a form of exposure....hope teachers do teach and not expect students to auto know.

              j.a.m.:

Dd got back all the main papers on Thu. I had looked thru n signed them n they were returned to school by Fri. Lucky for her, she did well enough to avoid going for tuition next year šŸ˜‰

Next 2 days are admin days but unfortunately for her, she's down with fever and feeling rotten. Looks like she'll be using these 2 days to recuperate instead of playing n eating her favourite foods, the poor girl!

As for HCL, she'll probably be offered despite getting 8/15 for compo. Had sounded out with her chin teacher after SA1 abt dropping it but she sounded disapproving abt the notion. Probably dd will take it up since most of her class is going to do it, n she likes to be part of the crowd. Sigh... Just don't like the idea of staying back in school for more days...

              Hi j.a.m. and Club 2002 :hi5: ,

              :congrats: on good result.

I understand from DD's FT that HCL will be embedded within CL lesson so no more staying back in school specifically to do HCL :please: but the usual supplementary class for CL will be stretched by another hour, seems no diff :scratchhead:

'Morning 711mum & Club 2002!

Thanks 711mum, she actually did much better than I expected except for science. But since she meets her kpi, I'll just let it pass. Science is always the one subject she has difficulties grasping, and I think that it's cos her mind still cannot connect the dots in this area. Right now we are depending on her good memory and lotsa practice to conquer science. I do hope that eventually she'll 'get it'... Anyway, maybe it's just the bane of being a girl (not that I want to be sexist - sigh)...

As for Chinese, it's her least favourite subject cos the school gives them tons & tons of hw just for this subject! It's like twice the amount of the total of the other 3 subjects add together! (or at least from what I observe at home...) Sometimes she's so tired & frustrated after going through so many worksheets that I would give her the answer so that she can rest (she needs lotsa rest to function well). That's why I'm not keen for her to continue in p5... The only good thing about HCL is that it does not have orals, which she also sucks at šŸ˜“ šŸ˜“

Anyway, come what may, we'll attend the ptm, listen to all the warnings/advice from the teachers, enjoy the Dec hols before the marathon to psle begins... :rahrah: :rahrah: :rahrah:

                Happy mama

Congrats! What award? Best in english!?

                :thankyou: Jedamum.
No it's not for English. The highest in standard for English is 96.
As per the School's letter, DD is receiving award for \"Outstanding Academic Achievements for 2012\". šŸ˜„

                congrats!!

                  Laura02:

:congrats: to all 2002kids and parents who are satisfied with their SA2 results!

I've been mulling over the idea of helping our kids improve in composition this holidays, before P5 homework crashes like a wave over them. I would like to seek the opinion of other members of this this 2002 thread on this idea : someone poses a composition topic (on anything, can be a picture composition or a situational compo), we ask our kids to do the compo, then we post the child's compo up on line for other forumers to edit, critique and offer suggestion on. Compositions are a personal thing, and I know it can hurt of have one's best efforts criticized, but if we can keep the remarks objective, we may be able to help each other's kids in compo.

                  Cheers!

                  i think it's a brilliant idea, Laura02 .... :rahrah:

just look at how the maths thread works, it is doing an excellent job in solving all kinds of challenging questions for parents as well as students... to do the same for compo, first we need to have a volunteer who is an expert in creative writing to really provide objective remarks... i must say not everyone is good (like myself that's why i need to outsource) in compo and can give good comments.....

there should be a specific thread for compos/level and let the expert/s (not too many just 1 or 2 at most) comment....

Hear hear, I support too. :rahrah: :rahrah: :rahrah:

Agree that the maths thread has been very successful. It has helped my dd tremendously in her maths as we used it as part of revision. Thanks to P4 Maths thread, she only got 1 mcq wrong in her whole paper :lovesite:

Just for clarification, would that be for both EL and CL compos? How about adding in EL/CL orals too? Perhaps we can start by sharing what are the topics their schools set for the exams or the teachers go through? For all you know, some schools could be superb at 'spotting questions'! šŸ˜‰ šŸ˜‰

                        Yup, I think so - since it's a \"or\".
In dd's school, students taking HCL have to stay back one extra day whereas those taking NCL do not need to.
