Can weekly off/rest days be a weekday?

      Yes.

      Thanks, tanya.

I asked a few agencies, the maid salary is min $450 with 1 off day. Not sure how the salary will be next year. If you don’t match, your maid might not want to renew, and you have to pay exorbitant agent fees to hire a new one.

I ask MOM and maid agencies what if the new maids come from kampung area and got lost during their outings. Their reply is dont worry, they will arrange their outings. I read a news article a few wks ago that the govt has even prepare the shopping area/venue for their gathering, somewhere near central east. New maids are gullible and should stay away fr such place…bad influence.

$450 is the salary for new Indonesian maids. Mynamar maids may be a bit cheaper. You have to pay a bit more for experienced maids. It is sad that I dont trust new maids anymore.

When kiddos were younger, my maid's off days were on a weekday. That worked better for us as kids were in childcare and when I was at work. We'll either eat out or tabao for that one day. Or get her to cook some stew, the night before, that we can just heat up and eat the following day. Now that kiddos are in primary school, her off days are on Sundays, that's when I turn my whole kitchen upside down. 😂

She has her own mobile phone since she first started with me. I passed her one of my laptops when I upgraded mine. She wanted a facebook account initially, I told her ok but basic rules, no details about my family, especially my kids, on her account, I will help her set the privacy setting and it should be used to communicate with only her family and those who are already her friends and not to befriend strangers. She can only log on at night after my kids have gone to bed. Explained to her that these are precautions to protect her as well. However, eventually, she did not have any Facebook account as her hubby was against it. She sent the laptop back to Indo for her sister who was still schooling then.

:goodpost: Funz! Thanks for sharing this. :hugs: Very useful information! I can see ourselves with this exact arrangement should we finally get down to getting one. A decision that we've been procrastinating about this whole year.

My indo maid salary has been with us for 6 yrs now, no hp. Her salary is $ 450 per month.

We are flexible with her days off as my girls are older at 6 & 10 YO. Basically she just tells us when she wants to go out. So its at least 2-3 days per month. She goes back 2 wks every year with all expenses paid, air ticket, 40kg luggage allowance + full pay.

She gets average $300-400 from CNY red packets every year because we have a big family.

If we go out for the whole day on wkend and she doesnt follow, we will also give her $ 5-10 for meal. So she actually may go out to pack her lunch/dinner.

I dont care if the house is messy (and its not!). I just want hot dinner and my kids to be done with their homework, spellings and bath when I get back from work.

Recently she did ask if we can give her 1 of our unused new hp. I am seriously considering this wish.

I want to be fair to her and see this as a reward for her hardship. Honestly I do not have a word to complain about her except being sour about this  .....1 word from her, my 2 girls will \"move\"....

dont even try...i will not intro my maid to you. i had experiences of mothers at some enrichment classes trying to ask her if she wants to work for them instead..... I hope she doesnt leave us, ever.

My maid dont go out at all. and I compensate her by paying her more. I rather she work at home then mix with those maid at town and learn stupid tricks and use it against us

A friend of mine has a helper who doesn't want off day (to go out) too, but just wants Facebook. My friend and hubby was more than happy to oblige. Her hubby even bought the helper a cheap phone with wifi and let the helper do just that on her day off. Good at cleaning and giving basic care for the kids but still working on the cooking bit. 4th month now.

Not all employers are comfortable with helper having a mobile phone plus Facebook time, but so far quite a handful of frenz or relatives with helpers that I personally know don't mind this arrangement.

Would like to hear your thoughts.

No weekly off. Only Facebook time.

My Filipino maid have 1 off day a month. She has a facebook account, and usually access it via her HP at night after we retire to our bedrooms. I will retire to my bedroom at 8PM, she will go to her own bedroom too. I do not allow her to close the door when she sleeps. Sometimes, I passby her bedroom past midnight, she is still using her HP. I accessed her FB and found that she have posting at different timings throughout the day. So that would mean that whenever she is out of my sight, or if she is in the bathroom, she uses her HP. Now she even block me from her FB. It's not a wise thing to allow your maid to use Facebook, they will abuse it.
