Hi all,
Been a silent reader here… DS is in P2 this year and P3 in 2013… He’s not selected in any sports class… so going to the rest of the classes…
I need to ask if CCA is compulsory?
Reason being
There’s this Art Talent program starting in 2013, and last friday, the selected P2s had this art audition thingy… the teacher in charge called me yesterday to inform me that DS is selected for this Art Talent Programme that they will undergo intensive training… the training is on every Wednesday 1230-130…(which I told her will clash with the CCA timing…) however, she encouraged that we think abt it and if we are keen on Art talent, then she can help to talk to the CCA - teacher in charge… (we choose 1st choice - sports club).
So this morning I told her our decision that we are keen then what abt CCA? She responded and gave me the impression that CCA is not compulsory…that’s why I am seeking advise from Parents here…
Art Talent - what they do… i asked too… not sure if any of the parents here heard abt it and can share info…
=> they will learn all the techniques
=>As the p2 batch of 13 students are pilot batch for this program, the initial year will be basics before they go on learning journey
=> these students will get to represent the school for competitions or watever program (something like dancing for SYF … )
=>i think students benefitted fm this Art Talent Programm can go SOTA where students can showcase their portfolio…
Thanks! -
Anyone with kids in P1 next year?
My younger one will be in P1. Just to check those existing P1 student’s mommy, do we need to enroll them for any tution for P1? -

MummyTang, this Art Talent Programme sounds new to me. My DS in P3 this year. Never heard of it last year. Definitely a programme that my DD will be looking forward to in PCPS (DD will be in P1 in 2013). I applaud for such initiative by the school.Hi all,

CCA - Not compulsory, but the school will encourage you to take on at least one for a holistic experience. -

Totally never heard of this! How are the kids been selected?? Not that my DD will be selected but to me, it is very important that parents are aware of all these opportunities/initiatives so that we know how to work closely with the school to provide an enriching and holistic educational environment.... PCPS has a lot a lot of room for improvement in this area.Hi all,

Hi, my girl is P2 this year. How old is your elder one? Did you send him/her for tuition?Anyone with kids in P1 next year?
My younger one will be in P1. Just to check those existing P1 student's mommy, do we need to enroll them for any tution for P1?
My girl has tuition for all the 3 subjects. Not that she needs them badly but the tuition actually makes her more discipline in revising her work... My personal observation is the school work is actually manageable but sometimes the tests are more difficult than what has been taught. So with tuition, my girl is exposed to different types and wider spectrum of questions hence able to cope with the tougher questions. -

My eldest is in P5, her results in not very good despite tution. I'm changing her tutor already.

I'm thinking whether to enroll my P1 to mind stretcher. -
Hi all,
Last wed/thurs, DS came back with a small slip of paper telling him where to go and what to bring on last fri… We were also blur… Cos dunno wat is it abt… But DS was given instructions to bring color pencils and previous artworks…
So on last fri, I asked him, he said drew something, teacher look through his stuff then released them for learning journey…
Apparently these students whom went for audition were nominated by their Art Teacher…
The 2012 P2 are the pilot batch and 13 of them in total… I dunno what the criteria … But the teacher in charge sounds very positive abt this Art thingy… ( cos she in charge mah) …
Ya I agree on the communication part that the school must buck up…
So parents if you are keen in this Art thingy, start to collect ur kids art pieces…
Ok so CCA not compulsory… Thanks! -
Hi vbcouple, I heard the same thing from my son’s FT about prefect role. Since he is taking on the flag duties now, I hope he will eventually be one. I feel that this is a good role for exposure…
Irene06, my son having English classes at TLL. As for chinese, we continue our berries classes which we have enrolled him in his kindy days. But feel that exposure is not enough… Still sourcing for good Chinese class. Do you guys have any recommendation?
MummyTang, the art programme seems fun and good. My son likes Art, so he may like this programme too. -

Hi Minmin27
My gal is in P1 too. She has been assigned by her form teacher to do the flag duties lately. Do you know whether they will continue the duties when they go P2 next year? And for how long? There was not much update from her form teacher and I thought it was only for a day. Silly me :slapshead:
Hi Mummy_Tang
I would advise you to go for it since your DS has talents in Art.
