Do you let your child go to/from school on their own?

I have a primary school just walking distance from my home, but need to cross an unbusy street.


I have another primary school (of my choice) 1 MRT station away from our house. We might be putting boy at this nearby school which is near so as to save those undue worries about child crossing road.

If it's neighbouring school, then I will let him cross the road when he starts primary 1 at 7. Still pending for Daddy's approval, though.

No, my son is 3 years old and go to preschool with the preschool bus. As it is provided by preschool and it is safe for kids. Parents must ensure kids' safety before sending them to any preschool. http://www.callingallkidsagain.com/ ensures kids' safety very well on the bus as well as at the preschool.

I Guess generally school provided bus services should be ok normally I see plenty of helpers waiting for the kids as well

We started them at P3 cos there were traffic lights n sch was just 15 min away. Later change sch, we let the boys take public bus back home at P4 level. So far nothing major happens, except one kid overslept his stop ! but he figured his way to cross the road ( long way) and came back half an hour late. Nowadays I send them (P5 &4 now) out to NTUC or hawker centers to buy back food/groceries on some weekends. They will come back like 20-45 mins. Phones are compulsory of cos.

It pays to be safe than sorry. Dun think everything now are safe,if not when things really happen…its too late to be regard!

Every morning, i will sending my girl to school. We usually saw a P1 or 2 girl going to school by herself.
once morning, we saw there was a man keep following her behind…at first,we thought that is her father. but we suspected his action was very weird,so we decided to follow him to see wat he want…
when they pass by the carpark,the man ask the girl to stop to help him for something…then he open his pants n ask the girl to touch his private part. Omg…we were so shock n shout at the man. he then quickly ran away…
Luckly,we was there…if not,dun know wat will happen to her next!!!

It will be good that you highlight this incident to the school too. The school can then remind the parents about their children’s safety. Not all kids are fortunate to have met you, a caring adult, looking out for the safety of other schoolmates or children. Thank God you are there.

I am going to move in about 2 months. Now, I am living next to my DD and DS (P5 and P6) school so I allow them to go by themselves at different timings. It only takes about 5 mins to walk there and you only need to cross a zebra crossing once. Later on when we move, they will have to leave the house earlier as it will take about 20 mins to reach. I plan to let them take bus but they refused. I live in yishun, which currently is not very safe. They will also leave at the same timing but still it is quite dangerous for two kids to be out and about at 6.50am.

Err... have I missed something? What's not safe about Yishun?

I think P5 and P6 should be fine taking a bus to school - familiar route, familar places. 6.50am is pretty late for school-going, actually. And they are together. You can always wait at the bus stop with them in the morning if you are concerned.
