I'm so happy for u and your family too!
Hi Mashy,mashy:
More happy news from me today!
hope it will encourage those with younger kids that yours can do it someday too.
Firstly, my boy is going to receive an award from his sch!
not for best results but best progress. He has changed so much over this year from not wanting to do any work to being conscientious.
2ndly, I just saw a colouring from him which totally took me by surprise. He hated colouring and usually it's haphazard and badly done. This recent colouring from him is just simply fantastic. All within the lines with good use of colour. Probably no big deal to a kid with no fine motor prob, but he has indeed come a long way. I cried just looking at it.
Thanks for sharing the good news and happy for you and your boy!
Me too, would like to share that my boy has shown improvement as well over this year in K1! He started the year in kindy a bit of a blur sotong, whiney and not talking proper words. To now, last week, he actually participated in his kindy year-end concert and performed a dance with some of his classmates and did really well!
His teachers were so proud of him and we are so proud of him too. Like what the kindy's security guard told us, at least he did something and he is no longer whining like last time. We are very grateful to his teachers and teacher assistance who helped him a lot to train him up for the concert. His classmates too helped to keep a look out for him, make sure he does his work, take out the right stuff in class and will tell the teachers when he said proper words. His teachers also told us he is talking more and more now.
Recently, he is singing songs and reciting nursery rhymes quite accurately. No doubt finally all the songs/rhymes he has absorbed is \"coming out\". Again for those parents with kids of great speech ability, this is probably like nothing to them. But to us my boy's \"clumsy recitals\" really brought a smile to me and my hubby's lips!
Next year K2 his class will be larger. I will be observing him very closely to see how he will be doing in a large class of 20+. Whenever somebody ask me what are my plans for my boy I will usually say \"See how it goes the next 6 months\". That's about as far as we can plan really.
Isn't it wonderful when we see that progress in them? It will get better and better.
Oh, I love such good news! I think it uplifts everyone and give hope.

I agree that routine is very important esp for children like ours. They thrive on routines. With an established routine, everything gets easier.
I don't think that pretending to sleep is going to train him well. He will then always expect you to sleep when he sleeps, which is not what you want. What you are aiming for is a child who will go to bed and stay there when you tell him that it's bedtime, even if you are in another room talking, watching TV or whatever. First, make sure he's reasonably tired, then have some kind of bedtime routine - brush teeth, read a book etc. Then say goodnight, switch off the light, leave the room and close the door. Initially, he will not sleep and will probably cry and scream and come out repeatedly. You have to be firm, even if it means that he cries for an hour, and you have to put him back to bed 20 times. It's best that you ignore his crying no matter how loud it gets. It sounds harsh, but if you give in, he will not be trained. He's already 3yo, so his endurance is greater than a baby's. I sleep-trained my kids at a few mths old, and it was easier as they couldn't walk and would exhaust themselves faster.helplessmum3:

Asperger: meets autism criteria but without speech delay, usually at least average IQ.
hFA = mild autism : meets autism criteria with speech delay and at least average IQ. -
hi mashy,
Did you send your son for an iq test to determine. if he is ready for p1? I am quite against doing an iq test hence just checking with mummies with kids in mainstream. schools. -
I think Mashy’s already in P1?
So nice to hear good news from mummies. Yes, it does lift our spirits and gives me hope that my son will get better when he grows older.
These two days, I hv been playing the game Simon Says with my boy, I think is a great game for them to learn turn taking, follow instruction n imitate -

I didn't get the IQ test done to determine if he's ready for P1 actually. I already registered him for school anyway.hi mashy,

It was part of his assessment to determine if he has autism. I guess they wanted to check if he is high functioning enough to go mainstream school. Why are u against an IQ test? Mine didn't even have a number given. So even with an IQ test done, we also dunno how much. We just know some are very good, some are below average. And hence they couldn't calculate his IQ score. But based on overall performance, they deduce that he could enter mainstream because he could absorb information easily by reading. The psychologist even wrote down that he is likely to learn mainly from reading by himself.
I suppose if they get a low IQ score then they will advise the parents to go to special needs school rather than a mainstream. -
New age parents fb , all mummies there are talking about autism n sharing very much now…
It’s so common in Singapore n kkh cdu brought up too
