I think Mashy’s already in P1?


So nice to hear good news from mummies. Yes, it does lift our spirits and gives me hope that my son will get better when he grows older.

These two days, I hv been playing the game Simon Says with my boy, I think is a great game for them to learn turn taking, follow instruction n imitate

Did you send your son for an iq test to determine. if he is ready for p1? I am quite against doing an iq test hence just checking with mummies with kids in mainstream. schools.

I didn't get the IQ test done to determine if he's ready for P1 actually. I already registered him for school anyway.

It was part of his assessment to determine if he has autism. I guess they wanted to check if he is high functioning enough to go mainstream school. Why are u against an IQ test? Mine didn't even have a number given. So even with an IQ test done, we also dunno how much. We just know some are very good, some are below average. And hence they couldn't calculate his IQ score. But based on overall performance, they deduce that he could enter mainstream because he could absorb information easily by reading. The psychologist even wrote down that he is likely to learn mainly from reading by himself.

I suppose if they get a low IQ score then they will advise the parents to go to special needs school rather than a mainstream.

My son’s IQ test is scheduled to be on May next year. Dunno if he will be cooperative also. Sometimes he knows the answer but wouldn’t comply. I hope he is in good mood that day.


Congrats Mashy and Desertwind, its good to hear good news. Mine was all good but this morning he threw a big fuss and doesn’t want to go to school, we almost missed the school bus. Sigh… I guess there are ups and down in life… Most importantly we must hold our chin up and keep moving forward.

Can I ask if you ASD kids know they are different from other people? I know I have bring up this before. My son lately keep saying all people dun like him. Low self esteem like that.

Also how do you tell their siblings that they have a special bro/sis who is different from them?

Hahaha I keep asking my son ‘are you autistic?’ & he always tells me ‘noOooooooooooo’. The other day, I asked why he won’t talk to his friends, he said, ‘(because) I’m different’. Also, I asked if he knew why he’s in the social class, he said ‘because I don’t know how to talk to my friends’. I was shock he is actually more aware than I thought he is. I’ve seen massive improvements in my son too! He’s ability to infer is going up by notches. The other day, it was raining & we just parked our car. Usually, I’d ask why our car is wet. This time I asked why the other cars are NOT wet, he replied without hesitation that it’s 'cause the cars did not go out.

I do forsee my younger girl will be seen as the elder sister in future too. Even now at 2.5years old, she is already acting like one. When I call my son from the kitchen, she will run to him and say "Mummy call u, go go!" And when I get my son to drink his medication, she will stand beside him, pat on his shoulder and comfort him saying, "gor gor good boy, drink medicine ok? good boy". Then when my son finishes a task, she will clap her hands and say "Gor gor clever boy!" Also, every now and then, she will bring something to the brother and asks him if he wants and if he nods his head at her, she will say "ok, I help you open."

When I look at my girl, I just want to hug her real tight and thank god for sending her to me. She was conceived by accident while my son was the child that I had planned and yearned for, for more than 1.5 years. Sometimes I wonder if I had let nature takes its course when I try to conceive my first child, would things have been different. Is he ASD because I took too much Chinese herbs to condition my body for pregnancy, or is it a result of the clomid that I took?

Lately, I noticed that my boy has been echoing the stuff that he saw and heard from Youtube and me, sigh! But well, I take it that he is trying to memorise what he learnt.

BTW, do your kids speak with an accent? my boy does and my friends noticed his ang mor slang too. Actually I noticed some HF kids from Pathlight do speak with an accent too. Wonder if this is common among them.

Haha, my boy speaks with an Ang mo accent when speaking Chinese. Lol.

I'm also thankful for my gal. Simply too cute and talks too much. I think it's a good balance. My boy has now become more outspoken.

Typical autistic kid at 3 yrs old wouldn't bother if your friend's daughter burned her fingers by touching the oven.

Hehe, I think I've some autistic traits in me too. Not someone who can keep friends.

I think everyone has autistic traits. Everyone need their space, there will be times where we dun feel like socializing, we feel awkward and uncomfy at situation etc…

Just that our ASD kids have deeper traits of them. Sometimes I feel my son is completely normal. Its no big deal not to talk right.
