      Hi Peapot,

Tks for yr advice. Wonder what’s the status on H1N1 and seasonal flu over in HK? DH, DS1 n I got the H1N1 jab but not my 2 younger ones. Was told to bring hand sanitizer…

I will be bringing masks for my gal. My friend told me she saw some people on the street and in the airport wearing masks.

Handsanitizer is a good idea. The HongKong people are quite considerate and they are also afraid of H1N1. According to my friend, its the "da lu" people that gives the problem.

          Places of interest

Depending on how old are your kids and how many days you are staying. If you already have Disneyland and Ocean Park on your list, the kids should be happy. My child prefers Ocean Park.

1)The other tourist place which is easily accessible is 'The Peak', take the Tram ride as it is very steep (some part almost 45degrees) so it is quite thrilling for children. Also, the must-have HK scenery photos at the Peak top.

2)If weather is good, consider also the 'Symphony of Lights' which is a free laser show along the TST Waterfront Promenade. It is quite a good way to soak in the atmosphere and see the night HK cityscape.

3)If you are game, visit Big Buddha/Tai-o on Lantau island but the bus-rides are rather long and bumpy....a few adults had motion sickness when we were there.

          Food
Kowloon - I am only familar with TsimShaTsui (TST). My base camp is usually Granville Road :

          1) Around my base camp, the HK style coffee shop 源记 is our favourite makan place. It is just like those HK style coffee shop you see on TV. The roasts meats are very good.

          2) Tsimshatshui (TST)
Hanoi Street 龙记: Wantons like ping pongs - full of prawns.
Lock Road : Macau Restaurant. Pigeon, Macau baked rice - interesting food but not die-die must try

          3) Mido Cafe - 美都茶室 63 Temple Street
This is a 50years history cafe so the place is rather old but quaint.
Beware of the 'tao' service. The pineapple buns are famous but we were there for dinner and didn't try.

          4) If you are not worried about hygenie, try the Hing Kee claypot rice at 19 Temple Street. Real claypot rice and really nice.

          5) Central 中环, 160-164 Wellington Street
          a) 莲香楼
70 years old, old-styled dim sum place. You can get good dim-sum anywhere in HK, I think but this is where the locals eat. We like to go there just to soak in the atmosphere. Die-die must try Siew Mai & chicken pao !! Big chicken pao if you can get it. Got to snatch once the aunty with the trolley comes out. It is usually very crowded and very difficult to get seats. If your kids are young, maybe want to reconsider.

          b)泰昌饼家 Tai Cheong Bakery
          35 Lyndhurt Terrace
          Famous Egg Tarts!

          c) Lan Fong Yuen
A very small streetside stall near the travellators in Central. You will see many clippings of HK/Singapore stars on the store front. The HK miktea and pork chop buns are the signature food.

Usually we do a ½ day trip in Central. Start with dim sum at莲香楼, go for egg tarts at 泰昌, sight-see on the central escalator then take taxi to the peak tram station – take tram to the peak etc.

*side note* Most of these are local eateries and not very swanky 😄

I'll try to dig out some photos. Hope this helps.
