      Hi!

I noted that there are 2 Maths assessment books with the same title "Step-by-Step" - one by CASCO and one by EPH ==> which is the one that is more recommended?
I am also q keen to try out Andrew Er Maths assessment books but realised that there are several titles under his belt… any parents have tried any of them and find them good?
      Thanks!:)

        Hi ilovechubby,

My very limited knowledge based on P1 assessment books…between the 2 step-by-step books, the EPH one would be more for building foundation and concepts, while the CASCO one has some very challenging questions for each topic. Andrew Er has many different assessment books with different focus, depending on whether you want to have more practice on the routine arithmetic type of questions or more on problem sum solving. For problem sum, I find his Challenging problem sums book quite interesting and also quite do-able, unlike some of the challenging questions in CASCO books which I get stumped as well….especially those magic squares or IQ type of questions (or maybe you can call them heuristics questions)…for Andrew Er books, although the problem sums can be quite challenging, at least still solvable with some logical thinking. I think Andrew Er also has a book titled ‘Use of Heuristics in Problem Solving’ which also explain the basic techniques of Heuristics, but only has quite basic examples and questions.

Which area do you want to focus? Word problems (Section C)? Or mixture of Section A, B and C questions? I find Andrew Er's Challenging Maths is good if you are looking for Section C.

Hello Mummies, what do you think about Casco on Mathematics? Are they generally good? Do they provide detailed step-by-step solutions? Are they challenging?

Yes, Casco Mathematic do provide step-by-step solution.I have try buying that for my dd to try but she told me the question are not challenging.I still felt Andrew's Er one are better, they are more challenging.

If not, you can try onSponge Mathemtic, they do have step-by-step solution too.

                      Hi

I need some advice on Terry Chew Maths Olympiad Trainers 1, 2, 3.

I have tried using his Olympaid Beginner books, but i wisah to use Trainer series, as I can do all exercises. Is this easy to do, ie can DC do these Training books without referring to Terry Chew’s maion books. I am looking to start my DS on the 7-8 trainer books, and move on to Trainer 2 then 3.

Has anyone any expereince of these books.
