we missed the NJC open house, but would like to find out more about CCAs… Do students have to submit an option list, and go for trials

Hope a current student can enlighten us on canoeing & dragon boat CCA.
Is there a selection trial?
Is this CCA open to both girls & boys ?
Details on training sessions etc… ?

For CCAs JH1s during their orientation they will have a CCA tryout, whr students get to try out the niche CCAs (9 only) then get to choose what CCA they would want. But thats not the official one, they get to try a sports CCA (first term) then try an aesthetic CCA in the second term. This is called CAFE. Then term 3 and 4 they move on to Advanced Cafe, where they only get to choose 1 CCA and attend 10 sessions. Then in JH2 they do the official CCA and if students want, they can have a 2nd CCA. All these CCAs are chosen by writing your preferred top 6 CCAs in the form that will be given. Whether you get in ornot depends on whether the CCA wants you and whether there is still space.
Sorry I dont know much about canoeing and dragon boating, but I know its open to both boys and girls. For training, students will be brought to MacRitchie Reservoir, they can bathe after training there as well.

This year, it seems like basketball is the most wanted CCA. Not really sure but I think table tennis is one of the most unwanted one

Can anyone enlighten me on the art elective program. MTIA.

Hello!

I have just been accepted into the AEP program so here's some information on it.

Lessons are on either Tuesday or Thursday from 2-5pm.

AEP will not only teach art skills and techniques, but also history.

AEP students are encouraged to take Art at O levels at the end of their JH4 year.

AEP has a 2 year contract. You cannot drop out of it during the JH3/JH4 years you have signed on.

Students will be tested at the end of JH4 for eligibility to take Art at the A levels.

No matter what school, 3rd Language is at external MOE Language Centres leh.

Any DC in NJC taking 3rd language ? I read that it will have a cut off of 2 marks in o level. Since NJC is a IP Sch , am I right that it is not important to opt for it ?

Pls advise me[/quote]Grade for 3rd Language will be reflected on the progress report, and will affect the GPA. Quite a number of students will eventually drop their 3rd Language for various reasons such as not being able to cope (attend lessons but still can't understand), or simply because they joined for fun in the first place and don't wish for 3rd Language to pull down their GPA.

I'd recommend students to only take up 3rd Language if they are really interested and passionate about it. (Willing to commit and persevere through the more difficult basics part) Also do take note that secondary school is definitely more tedious than primary and will have more activities (and extra commitments) for the students, so the ability to cope and juggle all these stuff would be essential for those who wants to take up 3rd Lang.
