I have a question . If the child gets 238, so can we select the school based on last year cop 238 as first choice and 237 as second choice and what is the chances of getting in the first choice

Are you able to get someone to help you buy the books and uniforms for your child? Give the person your child’s measurements or a set of shirt and trousers to gauge. Plus be contactable in case your fren need to verify with you on certain matters regarding the purchase. If no one is able to help you, call up the school once you know the posting and ask for their advice.

After getting result, do we discuss about posting here?

Why not? This header says it all. For results and posting. :imcool:

I have a similar enquiry too. Was told it depends on the results of whole cohort. Called St Andrew's Sec to find out and lady on the phone told me the COP will have to depend on the intake of the boys from junior side FIRST.

That means it is also a 'tikam' thing since the COP is not known. If the COP is 238, the child would need 239 to 'secure' the place...can any parent advise if this is the case? Thanks.

COP is based on demand for places in the school. If many high scorers opt for the school, then the COP will be higher. They just draw a line under the lowest-scoring student admitted, and that is the COP. The school does not set the COP.

If you check the last 3 yrs COP (should be in the grey book), you will find that the COPs for a particular school generally only vary by 1-2 points in either direction. Since we had 6 choices, I told my daughter that our strategy was to pick 2 schools which had COPs at or 1-2 points above her score, 2 more schools 1-3 points below her score, and the remaining 2 schools should have COPs lower than her score by a wider margin. Since the order that you list the schools does not affect your priority (if you put a school as 2nd choice, you will get in ahead of kids who have a lower score even if they put it as 1st choice), this should be a safe strategy to get at least one of the 6 chosen schools.
Thanks for your analysis and strategy. :thankyou:
Need clarification please.

                  1) can we base on the grey book cop to place our choice? Eg. If last year cop is 235, and your child results is 235, confirm get in or still risky?

                  2) Prior to going overseas, one have to appoint a proxy for both 19 & 20 Dec, to check posting and registering at school?

                  3) Proxy assigned but we are only back on 31st Dec, can we buy books and uniforms on the first day of school?

                  Thanks

                  1) Last year's COP is just a guide to what it might be this year. Each year's COP varies with demand and supply. No guarantee that the COP will remain, so choose your options carefully.

                  2) You'll be notified of the school you've been successfully sent to via SMS. So no need to have proxy to check posting.

                  3) Not a good idea to buy uniforms on first day of school bec what will your son wear to school that day? Check with the school where you can purchase the uniform bec first day of school.

Choose carefully, meaning? If one meets exactly the cop, should one even try placing as a choice?

Thanks, ideally of cos one should not get uniforms and books on the first day but 1st of Jan will be a holiday then next day school reopen, we do not have a chance to get things done.
Why not ask a relative or friend to help purchase one set of school uniform before the first day of school, so your son will be able to wear it then.

COPs for schools usually vary by just a few points each year, depending on the performance of the cohort. You can try putting your choice school as first choice even if you just meet the COP exactly. If you don't get into your first choice, the computer system will consider your 2nd choice and so on. Just make sure your choices are realistic so you don't waste your 6 choices.
