Maybe worse than that  ..........maybe SG kids will not be top :siam: 🦆

Actually, me thinks, highly likely!! Imagine the somewhat ironic news - top student, well okay from neighbourhood school, not Singaporean. Dunno whether will cause a cyber uproar or not....

Ok lah, we are competing globally mah.

I have shared this in the other PSLE thread...

In my opinion, not releasing the name of the scorer can indeed reduce the stress, BUT it's the unnecessary stress that the scorer will face in future. When results are announced , the parents and child will be revelling in the merriment and celebration, but what happens after that?

The child will face tremendous pressure of carrying that coveted label whereby his every performance will be scrutinised and the fact that he has to live up to the expectations. How will he feel if he did not repeat the feat in sec school? The child may just be happy to know his scores, not necessarily if he's at the top.

Unlike well-known sportsmen , musicians etc in a competition, they know they have to bear with the scrutiny and being in the limelight, a 12 year old child did not ask for this publicity and may not handle it well.
perhaps I'm just thinking too much... only by interviewing the past top scorers will we have a better idea of how they feel.

That's why I feel celebrations by his school will suffice.

Fully Agree....A wise MOE decision finally.... :rahrah: :rahrah:
PSLE is just a stepping stones....

Why MOE scare to acknowledge future scholars who will screw up their national policies or embarass them like Gay’s case, is it?

Why has MOE stopped releasing top scorers for national exams?

by Heng Swee Keat on Thursday, November 22, 2012 at 8:27am ·
Several people have asked if MOE stopped releasing top PSLE scorers to reduce stress or to de-emphasise academic achievements. Well, the change is not to address stress per se or to move away from merit. It is not possible, nor desirable, to eliminate stress completely. Nor should we be shy about achievements. There are broader considerations.
I believe in the pursuit of excellence – in all areas of endeavour. We must encourage our students to apply themselves and to persevere, so that they can reach their full potential in their chosen fields. When they put in the effort, we should cheer them on. When they succeed, we should recognise and celebrate their success.
We now have more avenues to recognise success – the Edusave Scholarships and Edusave Merit Bursary for academic achievements, the expanded EAGLES award for CCA, leadership and community service, and Edusave Character Awards for exemplary character. Schools too provide various forms of recognition. There are many sporting events, academic Olympiads and competitions in different fields, all of which are platforms to promote excellence.
In education, it is useful to bear in mind two key points – our children need to develop at their own pace; and they need to develop as a whole person. Pulling up the shoot to accelerate its growth or distorting growth in particular areas at the expense of holistic development will set the children back. This is why we are putting the emphasis on a ‘student-centric, values-driven’ education.
PSLE is an important exam – but it is not the be-all-and-end-all. It marks the conclusion of one stage of the learning journey – and the road ahead is a long one. As adults, all of us will have to learn continually throughout our lives. It is not healthy to have such national focus at this stage of the journey. Rather, we should encourage them to persevere, to pursue learning along appropriate pathways, and help them succeed in the next phase. What matters is that our children grow up to have a love for learning, and to be life-long learners. It is a marathon, not a sprint.
I hope that whatever the results of your children, parents will support and encourage your children in their next phase of learning and growth. Our children will be more likely to succeed if they grow up to be confident and resilient, able to bounce back from setbacks; and be inventive and adventurous, able and willing to try and create new things. Let us celebrate their effort, continue to encourage excellence, and broaden our definitions of success.
I am beginning to like Mr. Heng..

Calling kiasuparents who like to compete in academic subjects so much - it is time for you to set up a separate competition for academic subjects!!

Invite participants who are strong in English, Maths, and Science - and this time, you have the right not to include Mother Tongue  😆 ! Get your children to compete in this National P6 Academic Competition! Then you can glorify the winners how ever you want!

What's more, if you have been pushing your kids to get into other forms of sports for DSA, then create some sort like a trilathon - must be good in both academics and sports! Or even academics & the arts! Give separate trophies! I bet the response should be pretty good...esp from the sponsors like Essence of Chic...

There are so many other ways to compete for the best spot and be in the lime light! PSLE isn't all there is - and many have been channeling their energy for this ONE SINGLE exam... 🤷

Oh, for crying out loud. PSLE students are intelligent enough to know that the PSLE is not the finishing line, much less the \"be-all-and-end-all\" :stupid: .

Those of you who have read my posts in other threads know that I am not in the opposition camp. But I have to say that the Minister's latest statement, with all due respect, is meaningless drivel. There is no explanation at all of the reason behind the move or what it hopes to achieve, much less how it is supposed to achieve what it was intended to achieve.

Somebody else mentioned that this is but a sacrificial lamb for other things possibly lined up. Sacrificial lambs are the tools of the lily-livered. And the lily-livered do not produce champions.

I am beginning to wonder whether the knee jerk reactions from the MOE are symptomatic of a bigger problem with our policy makers. Did losing a GRC in the last GE cause them to lose their... uhm... constitution*?

                      * The piratey jargon for this is a shorter word. It drops out of a wire cage during Pri 1 balloting and rhymes with \"be-all-and-end-all\".

We will be more careful for the next GE. PSLE is the first step in which sch the kids will be posted to. These kids are being monitored in terms of academic and other performance.

Everywhere is the same right. Even in working life, there are appraisals whether the company has to keep or kick an employee.

Recruits in army also being monitored who will eventually be the Best Recruit and posted to an Elite force.
