      workingmom:
      Hi - need some advice.

My current helper has been with us for 8 years, since my elder daughter was born. Now she wants to leave to go home, she has given us ample notice (6 mths).

Is it a good idea to get in our new helper early so that she can be trained by our current helper ? I have heard mixed views on this. My mom is dead set against it. My hubby and I dont see any issues as my current helper is not leaving on a sour note...she has been taking care of my 2 kids for so long and she knows the routine.

I am FTWM so if there is no overlap I will definitely have to take leave or go on part-time/no pay, stop work for a while when the new help comes in.

Would be glad to hear your views on this !
      Hi.
My experience tells me that NEVER let your two maids have any interactions.

Your old maid might instill some wrong thinkings in your new maid.

I will agree with your mom.
When the new maid comes, it is best that you or your mom train her.

New maid means new style and teachings.
Your old miad probably has some styles that you felt can be improved.
This is a good time as you can train your new maid to your required standards.

Also, no point paying for 2 maids.

I believe you or your mom can do a bettr job šŸ˜‰

I also prefer not to have the two maids meet. Who knows what they tell each other?

When my previous maid left, I sent her to the airport in the morning, and picked up new maid from agency that same afternoon.

Never the twain shall meet...workingmom. šŸ˜‰

I'm a FTWM like you and I'd \"maximize\" time by sending one off and picking my new helper the same afternoon. Your current helper may leave on a good note, and you MAY just do away with the laborious training. But having been 8 years with you, I'm sure she has also picked up some undesirable habits that you'd rather NOT have. She also knows your family schedule and habits inside out... 😐

Let the new helper be a new start. It may be painful but I believe its beneficial to the family in the long run.

My current and previous Indon maids (both are very good) are both from Surabaya. I also have relatives in Surabaya, so when my maid need to send money home or buy things for their family, my relatives can help.

I personally think the hometown is not a determine factor as if a maid is good or not.

It is individual character and attitude :celebrate:
