      AWARDS FOR TEACHERS

TKGS is proud of its teachers who go the extra mile to ensure that students learn. Amongst the 100 strong teaching force are those who distinguish themselves in the way they lead, care and inspire TKGians. They are Mr Muhammad Ahmad who was one of the recipients of the Inspiring Teacher in English Language Award, Mdm Adela Chee, recipient of Inspiring Chinese Language Teacher Award and Mr Yap Boon Chien, an awardee of this year’s President’s Award for Teachers. Through professional learning communities, these teachers lead others to grow in professional wisdom and expertise.

String ensembles selection also depends on your instrumental competency. There will be stringent audition and interview. What string instrument is your dd learning and what level? My DD got in via string.

Anyone/ whose child's got into TKGS via band dsa? Can you pls share your dsa experience (eg. selection, audition, etc..)...Trying to prepare dd for next year...Looking at the 2012 PSLE results and parents' discussion on schools, it's really freaking me out :nailbite: :yikes:. It's just so worrying....

🙏 :xedfingers: dd can make it to TKGS.

dd is passionate about band and still hoping to do band in sec school. One of the criterias we've set for sec school is band cca must be at least gold (otherwise they will feel worst off as they are in a very good primary school band now). Trying to position her for grade 5 theory next year but practical is not possible. I called the school this year and they said grade 5 is not compulsory (nice to have) as more will depend on her other exposure (SYF, MTDC, etc...) and actual audition.... Omg... this is like stressing me out.... and still must have contingency plans... (if all else fails).... 😓

MMM, band falls under music dsa. It will be good if you can attend their open house to find out more. What I can share is that each year, they have a 10% quota for dsa students. That would worked out range of 24-28 students per yr that they will accept for dsa. Spread across their 12 (estimate) cca, each will be allocated 1-3 slots for dsa. So, it depends on how many students applied for the particular cca. Of course the instruments your dd can play is important factor too. If there are other girls who are playing same instrument with better or worst qualification will affect your dd’s chance. Attending the dsa open house talk will provide you the opportunity to size out the popularity of the cca and ur dd’s chance in comparison to other girls who attend the same dsa briefing. Of course the girl’s performance during audition and interview counts too. During the dsa open house, you will get the opportunity to see the quality of the cca too.

Tkgs is actually a very good school despite the lower cutoff point of 235. For me the only thing to pick about it would be the size of the school it feels very small and cramp when I was in it for the open house ( just a heads up for those with dd or ds taking PSLE the next few years ,the school will be moving to it’s holding site during 2017 I think )
