      GARFIELDDAD:
My son got aggregate 241 for PSLE this year, should he choose: (St Joseph Institution, Nan Chiau High School, Chung Cheng High (Main) or Tanjong Katong Secondary School) as first choice?

U can always out SJI as 1st choice then if not successful, you can try to appeal. In any case he should be able to be posted to one of the other schools as their cut off are probably much lower. Good luck and all the best.

chances will be slim as the cut off for feeder schs are already 238 ...

            Dear emoh,
Do you know if 238 is SJI predetermined COP for feeder schools? Or the affiliation COP may go up in view that there are only 8 year 1 classes for O level in 2013 instead of previous year 12 classes?

Does the school allocate certain percentage of affiliated students and those non-affiliated?

I believe so. Hence, the non-affilated will compete within that non-affiliated and the affiliated will compete within the affiliated.

I think this is how it works, all those from feeder schools with 238 and above who choose SJI O level track as first choice would automatically be given a place in SJI unless the numbers exceeds the total number of available places for O level track. The remainder would then be open to those from the other schools. Over the years about 40% of the students are from feeder schools.

If the number exceeds, the allocation will be based on merit, right ? meaning those from feeder eg. 239 will get a place and the COP will then go up. Hence, all those with affilation will compete within the affilated group.
