Dear all, I seek some advice here. This is my first posting.

My son was enrolled to a SAP school which does higher chinese. Its a good school and its just downstairs from where we live in the east. However, my son is not a good speaker of chinese and has some confidence issues with the language. I know this fear all too well as I am pretty poor in chinese as well.

I guess I’m seeking advice from anyone what should I do. Should I immediately enrol him into P1 enrichment classes or? I am extremely worried for him at this point and fear that it may not have been a prudent decision to enrol him into that school.

      Appreciate any advice…thanks.

        Hi,

My two children have the same problem since my husband only communicate to us in English. You should start the enrichment classes for Chinese much earlier to let your child recognise more words.

I have enrolled my DD primary school to a SAP school in the east this year as well. The reason why I wanted her to go there because I wanted an environment where she has more exposure or opportunities to communicate with others in Mandarin. For P1, there is not much different between HCL and CL in the earlier part of the text book so don't worry too much.

          Hi,

i am thinking of enrolling my DS for next year P1 berries or skylace.
Can anyone advise me which is better.
DS is quite active and attention span is quite short.

          thanks in advance

I have not tried Skylace but since your DS attention span is short, I don't think Berries suit him. You should be targetting those enrichment centre which can provide more individual guidance. I have some experience with Berries HG, I find that their class is too big for each intake as such they may not be able to pay more attention to individual's child development.

                Hi,

Am hoping that some mummies here would be kind to provide advice/recommendations:
I am contemplating sending both girls to a common slot in Chinese class.
One is in K1 and 1 in P1 next year.
I am lucky to have common slots for
                1. Berries: K1 and P1 HMT (1.5hours)
                2. Jiang Laoshi K1 1.5hrs and P1 HMT (3 hours)

Anyone have attended or have friends send their kids to both and can feedback on both their Chinese standards, quality of teachers, curriculum and materials?

I understand that berries is quite fun and Jiang may be more drilling? Or I may be wrong? Would it be better to start them on a more relaxed environment and then shift them over to a more drilling environment, say when my eldest turns P3 and younger turns P1? or should I dump both into Jiang straight away?

For Jiang, should I start my P1 in a normal Chinese 1.5hr class and then "upgrade" to 3 hrs class later? er, then I may also run the problem of having available slots that I would want.

Looking forward to some advice/recommendations to solve my dilemma!

                Thank you!!

                      Hi all,

Any recommendation for group tuition in Punggol, SK or hougang area for P2 - Higher chinese. DD is currently with Beijing and I am thinking of changing.

                      Thanks!

HEllo! I have 2 sons. 1 in p5 n 1 in sec 1. Both failed Chinese too. Were getting about 35/100 and 46/100 respectively. I tried a lot of centres n it didn’t really work out due to the large grp size. But now they are getting about 56/100 and 67/100 respectively. Thought the jump is not big but I m very happy alrdy. I send them to a centre in the east too with only 6 students per grp which is so much more effective lor. Haha I kiasu. Cannot afford to keep letting them fail.good thing the tutor go through oral, picture conversation, pp1 and pp2. My son like it also because ttutor uses riddles n games to teach them how to remember n recognize words.
