Yes, the split of classes will be in P5. To be sure of getting into A class, the average for all subjects will probably need to be above 80.happymommy:
Hi all,
I want to check, for a P2 to get into the best class in P3, generally what sort of overall scores minimum would be needed? Since there are no statistics given by teachers, just wanna check and hopefully aim for that. Tks.
Hi
P3 classes will be categorized according to child's CCA. As what i understand from my child (p4 next year), there are a few sports classes , CO class, Chinese dance, etc.
The split of the class will be in P5.
HTH
cheers

So does this mean that only their P4 results will determine whether they will get into the best 2 classes in P5? I suppose P1-3 results will not b considered at all?
-
Of the 2 top classes at PC, is there a 1st best and 2nd best, or it is a mixture of the top students?
Thanks! -

hi Precious2.leeHey folks!
Can someone enlighten me what is the whole idea regarding the sports classes? Do you think the students are spending too much time in CCA, especially Volleyball? If this gives them opportunity for DSA-route, perhaps it still make sense but if there's no benefit to it, why spend so much time?
I think bridesep, Callie Tan, tablespoon have discussed the sports class in depth earlier. You could search backwards to understand more. In a nutshell, the sports class is meant for the school at P3/P4 to identify potential school team players & provide additional coaching for table tennis, volleyball and basketball.
Training for sports class CCA is 3 times a week. Yes no doubt it is a lot of time spent BUT if your child is keen, children can adapt easily. The sports class teachers will also be mindful not to give too much homework on those days they stay back.
DSA? Very individual - possible but still depending on child - if they are keen and if they have talent. After going thru the sports class, they will know if they choose the sports DSA route, this means at sec school same or more time commitment for the sports. However with DSA, less pressure at PSLE.
Benefits? Exercise - I think our children do not play enough. Strong friendship bonds - imagine if the kids meet additional 3 times a week - they have more time to play and talk w their friends. Time management - I hope lack of time will inspire my child not to waste time when it comes to time for homework/studying. -

With the current principal, what I know now may change. Based on my DD's cohort. P5 selection is based on P4 results. Yes, generally A & B are top 2 classes. A class is the best class. What other parents tell me is that school tries to have an equal percentage of boys and girls in a class, so selection is by gender then merit. This year DD told me the top ten of the P5 cohort, 9 come from A, 1 from H (sports class). -
My understanding is that at P4, the kids will be re-allocated based on their academic results… so 5/6A and 5/6B will be the so-called top classes… Wow, I am not sure will P1-P3 results be considered when the school do the streaming at P4… can some parents share?
Yes CCA is going to take up quite a lot of time, especially during competition periods… but as what mummyv has shared, there are several benefits that I hope my girl can attain in time to come. Of course, it does open up the option for DSA but that’s not confirmed at all till much later if the kid is able to cope well in the sports as well as the studies… -

Thank you mummyv for the info! -
mummyv has summarised all the benefits of sports classes. To me, instead of having pockets of free time for computer games, my kids are filled up with sports training, why not?
When they move on to secondary sch, CCA is compulsory. All CCA will take up as much time. So, why not take up a sport as CCA, the kids can keep fit. Another benefit - they have no time to hang around in shopping malls…
As for P5 &P6 class allocation, A is the best, followed by B, C, D etc. Many years ago sch put more weightage on languages but found that A & B classes ended up with all girls. Apparently, girls usually do better in languages while boys top the math & science. Since 2 or 3 yrs ago, the sch has used total overall marks of P4 to do the allocation. The exception is the sport class 5H/6H where all school teams other than those qualify for top 2 classes &those doing foundation papers will be in the H class.
I heard the Vball captain this year got 269 for PSLE. A few others in the team did very well too. It’s all about time management… -
Yes I am looking forward to an exciting 2013 when my girl is going to be in P3, in the morning session, is starting her HCL classes and is going to start her VB training. Will definitely need to help her to settle down asap with so many changes.

Hi,
Have mummies here received the top 25% notification from MOE today? May I know if they will ever bother to check the income? For top 10% of P5 and P6, nothing to do with income right?
