... All the PSP talk in the other thread reminds me of the handheld games I played during my younger days. Does anybody remember the octopus, hammers flying about, parachute games, etc? During that time, one gameset can play only one game.

Yes yes. It's called http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_&_Watch. Killed thousands of productive hours of primary and secondary school kids before Tetris took over as the main culprit. So you see, there really is nothing new between the so-called born-digital generation and us.

I miss those packets of biscuits which they distribute during National Day. I always look forward to receiving a big packet of biscuits by courtesy of Khong Guan (I think). It was a great treat as we seldom get snacks (very poor hor). With a sister and 2 bros in primary school, we have 4 packets of biscuits which feed us for weeks. These days, the kids are luckier getting more 'expensive' gifts.

Yes! I remember those too... that was the start of the NDP \"goody bag\". Also, what about those 7th month pails of goodies brought home by our parents from their factories or businesses? I cracked many a teeth on the sugar canes in the bundles.

My childhood memories… let me think.

Playing zero-point, hop-scotch, old maid, five stones, the bubble gums with tattoos, tikam tikam. I especially like the tikam tikam as each time I will get a bell! Different colours each time.

I like to join my neighbours to play catching and down to the playground to play the swing and merry go round. Nowadays, can’t find the swing anymore.

After that, we upgrade to Nitendo playing Super Mario bros, western bar, walking across to ECP to play the Viking.

Hmm. If I remember more, I will update.

Actually hor, I didnt know that we get those biscuits cos of NDP. Was just curious why once in a long time (which is 1 year) we get those until a few years later than realise it's cos of this 'special' day.
For 7th month, I only watch opera which later became ge tai. Parents never 'by by' so watch these only. DH's family more well to do as his parents are in business so got involved in those 7th month celebrations. His parents always sent him to represent them to go to the dinner and bring pots to 'ta pao' leftovers. :rotflmao:

Those wayang shows in the past, my favourite activity was to go under the stage to buy the 麦芽糖。 I am not sure why they must be under the stage though. And when I was young, I remember the Redifusion was turned on the whole day long and one of the interesting programme for the adults then was this Hokkien programme..\"Ong Tho Kong Khor\"?
                Anyone in this era?

We used to have a redifussion at home too 🙂

I also missed the time when I was participating in NDP. I was holding the flashcard. Last time we made beautiful pictures by turning the flashcards, which was actually a book.

I particpated in the Youth festival parade as the guard of honour but never NDP for anything. NDP crowd was scarily huge for my size at that time. 😉 Must be fun to do the flashcards in a coordinated fashion.

It's either Nat Day or Children's Day...mine came from Thye Hong!!

Those days, we used to leave swill in buckets along the corridor and people will collect for use in their farms. Somehow we never had any fly/cockroach/rat problem then!!

Yes, there is a cantonese story teller called 'Lei Tai Sor' and every time when it's exciting, he'll stop and ask you to tune in the next day. The next day he'll start with 'siong yak qi\" (the last time). If my mum didn't believe me, she'd say something like \"you think you are Lei Tai Sor telling story is it?\" 😛
