DD is currently preparing for her Grade 3 ABRSM exams for this Feb/Mar. The teacher is a student with NIE now and comes to our house. The teacher is asking for $180 starting 2013.

Can anyone share with me the monthly rate which your kid’s piano teacher is charging for Grade 3? Also, how much do you pay for each grade jump?

It depends on their music qualification. I believe music degree holder will be charging higher. Teacher may also factor in the cost of travelling to your place too.

Thank you both for your replies. She is not a degree holder and she just started teaching for less than 2 yrs probably.

Hope that more mummies can share what they are paying for Grade 3 so I can have a better idea of market rate.

My DC go to the teacher's home for lessons. For Grade 3, pay around $160 per 4 lessons.

Although the qualification of the teacher is important, must also see whether she has the committment and ability to motivate the child to learn. We have learnt the hard way and lost about 1 year when we pulled our DC out from Cristofori and enrolled them with a Master Degree holder with acclaimed piano performance credentials.

The teacher was so disorganised and even missed enrolling and preparing our DC for ABSRM exams although her studio showed all the certificates with \"Distinction\" of some of her students.

When we asked her whether she was preparing our DC for exams, she muttered, \"You want them to take exams, ahh?\"

That was the last straw and we pulled our DC out immediately.
