All About English Composition

my ds3 got his compo today, teacher didnt write any comments…
but she told him that his story is out of point… he did not fail but didnt score as well as he normally would…
the story about a road accident, ds wrote about the flood on orchard road and 1 car knock a tree because he couldnt control the car… what’s out of point?? -
I personally believe that plot development is the most important part of writing. There’s no point using big words and all the tricks in the book if the plot is not clear, not well developed, illogical or is totally out of topic. Beginning writers need to work on their content (meat) and then later improve their work with techniques (garnishing) etc…

I have never memorized any essays for English in primary school and in school usually got around 80%+ for English in P5 and 6. I have always been an avid reader though.

Hi in secondary school for narratives good vocabulary is a must. Originality and climax is key in narratives. Especially because in sec school the narratives are not like in pri sch where they give this one liner situation and you expand from there. In sec school you get one word topics that you can interpret anyway you want. Eg. Did some schools prelim papers their one word topics were Dates, Technology, Change, Freedom. Up to you to interpret. However my EL teacher always said to interpret on two levels, both literal and figurative. Eg for the one word Flight, our teacher showed us this narrative about this girl who is flying from home to study in a school overseas, and she relates this to how a little bird eventually needs to leave the mothers nest (home).Skyed:

For personal recount you have to reflect throughout the essay, cannot just reflect at the end. Good vocab will help here too in creating more poignant stories. If your child can use sn experience they had before then even better.
Argumentative my school doesn't encourage so I've only ever done one piece on it so I can't say. However in schools where the students have weak English argumentative is encouraged because its hard to go off topic unlike narrative and personal recount. -

Hi,
I found this while browsing thro the webpage. There's an essay writing competition. The organising is giving away $13000 worth of cash and prizes.
No obligation. Open to all students under 16.
Talking about creativity and spending so much money on your kids on creative writing classes why not sign them up to see if they win!
Here's the link

I think so. I called them this afternoon to ask some questions on why they need our kids' passport sized photo. They told me it is so that the public will know who is the winner. You can call them too if you have any questions or doubts. They sound very nice people.
