Two former Cabinet ministers, two office-holders and two senior lawyers were among the names suggested to be the next Speaker of Parliament by political observers yesterday, a day after Mr Michael Palmer's shock resignation.

Last night, there was a major jam at TPE exit from punggol and entrance to Sengkang. Both directions on the highway was affected. It was due to traffic accident as we found out from EMAS. There were 2 accidents, both at the slip roads. The jam started in the 22 hours, and when we were in the area, it was already 23 hours, and the jam was still massive. There was no other news report about this.

The worst thing of all was - we did not see traffic police helping to divert traffic approaching these areas. Vehicles were stuck and continued to approach the jammed points instead of being diverted to other routes. That's how we landed in the jam, and when we got past, there was massive jam on the opp side of the road, also with no traffic police to divert them. \"Slow traffic\" as reported was really an understatement.

I am surprised if this isn't reported in the MSM. If one says traffic jams caused by accidents are common, then I'd ask - how common is it that traffic has to be diverted to run in opposite directions on both sides of the highway?

The only news I saw about this area on CNA last night and this morning is this: \"DPM Teo to ensure Punggol East residents' needs are met\". 🤷

PAP was unaware of SMS exchanges

                        (source: http://www.asiaone.com/News/Latest+News/Singapore/Story/A1Story20121217-389894.html)

Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean clarified that he did not know about the exchanges when Mr Palmer had first approached him over his extramarital affair with Ms Ong on Dec 8.

The New Paper revealed in a report last Thursday that it had received the exchanges from an unnamed source on Dec 8, and speculation has been rife that it was this that drove the former MP to resign from politics.

The exchanges showed intimate conversations between Mr Palmer, 44, who had been MP for Punggol East Single Member Constituency, and Ms Ong, 33.

Ms Ong, who had been a constituency director of the Pasir Ris West office, tendered her resignation last Monday, said the People's Association (PA).

Mr Teo, who is also an MP for Pasir Ris-Punggol Group Representation Constituency, said: \"The important thing is (that) he has taken responsibility for this and he has stepped out.\"

The MP had been speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a Deepavali celebration event in Rivervale Drive in the Punggol East ward.

Mr Teo said that one of his top priorities for Punggol East residents is to see to the resolution of upgrading works at Rivervale Plaza shopping complex.

Works there have been delayed because the contractor has gone bust, he said.

Later yesterday afternoon, Mr Teo went door to door at Block 193 to hand out leaflets detailing the next Meet-the-People Session, to be held today.

He said that he will attend the session, along with Minister of State Teo Ser Luck, who has been tasked with overseeing the ward.

During the block visit, Mr Teo said that residents raised issues, such as the cleanliness of the area. But, by and large, they \"were very satisfied\" so far, he said.

He added that those who mentioned Mr Palmer said that they were very sorry to see him go.

Mr Teo said that the residents felt that Mr Palmer had done good work as an MP, and they hope that this will be carried on.

At a separate community event yesterday, PA chief executive director Yam Ah Mee said Ms Ong was a \" very good staff\" member.

He said that he felt \"so sorry for her\" and urged the public to give Ms Ong \"space to move forward\" to address her issues.
