All About Parent Volunteers (PV)

KS mummies, If you stay within 1-2km from the school and there is no balloting for the past few yrs, do you think the chances for my child to be in is high enough not to do PV for the school. Thanks!

That depends on which year u are registering and which school u are looking at. For eg. Greenwood Primary did not conduct balloting in years 2006 and 2007 under phase 2C, yet balloting was conducting for < 1km in year 2008. -

Wow without any control of PV's? That means the school may take in 100 PV's then ask the Parents perform cheap labour. Then when comes to balloting would be like 25% chance. Any idea what schools is practising this way?Chanced upon this thread.
PV for Nanyang Primary is 80 hours and not the usual 40 hours.
Some schools are very stringent with the selection of PVs and try to control the no of PVs selected so that a large % of PVs can successfully get a place without balloting. On the other hand I have heard of schools who do not control the no of PVs that they have - even though they still do the interview screening. In such schools, it is very common to see oversubscribed Phase 2B - meaning PVs dun get a chance to even ballot or even if they have a chance to ballot it is usually like 1:3 or 1:4 chance to get the place. -
I heard 1 popular boys school near bishan area, 1 popular chinese co-ed school in the central west area.

I heard that NYPS limits the number of PVs to a very small number…like less than 30

Possible, there are some reading moms and some other PVs I think. Traffic wardens - there are about 15 I think. So probably around that number.

Hmm...thanks. Any more info regarding PVs for NYPS? -
They are quite upfront with what they need - which seems to be Traffic Wardens most of the time. Jim Rogers’ wife is also a PV I think - as a reading mom. Saw that on ST.

NYPS only has 50~51 applicants for phase 2B for the past 2 years. Excluding grassroot leaders, I think their PV intake is indeed very low which is good.
As to which are the schools that accept unlimited PVs, can definitely rule OUT Henry Park, Nan Hwa and Pei Hwa becoz these 3 schools rejected my PV applications! LOL… -
Actually most schools would still screen. But they do not necessarily match the number of PVs to the no of applicants. From what I understand, some schools do that - e.g. they look at historical trends and then they project the number of vacancies that would be available and then they accept only that number of PV applicants.
Some schools screen but they do not take the extra step of trying to match the number of PVs to the usual number of vacancies available in Phase 2B. Hence - the overflow situation. -
How is it be PV of NYPS? Heard have to go through interview where like going job interview.
