I think after each semester you can choose to opt out if you can't cope... this piece of information was given by my senior. Anyway, just a question. If we put all 3 choices for 3rd language, MUST we take ALL 3 OF THEM? curious: /

It's not about whether you can take all 3, is that you can't. You will be given 1 in the end. It's just like S1 posting, you can't get into all 6 choices, but only 1 out of it all.
Hi,

Any anyone tell me whether it is compulsory to submit third language option MSP (Malay) etc.. when registering S1?

If you don't do it now, will you have to do it later?

          Thanks

          Hi, enoawng.

It's not compulsory to opt for a 3rd Language, but it's compulsory to submit the option form by the S1 Posting submission date. If you are not interested, you will need to indicate -NIL- at all the 3 columns of choices.

If you do not exercise your 3rd Language option with this S1 Posting Exercise, you will not be allowed to do it in future.

          Hope this helps.

          Hi Koh,
          thanks. One more question.
If you elect 3rd language option now during S1, can you withdraw without any penalties later if the child does not like it?

          Cheers
Hi, So sorry, thousand apologies for my late reply.

I called MOE on Monday, plus the info I gathered from this forum; there is NO PENALTY for early withdrawal. In fact, some members here posted that at every term end/year end, teachers would ask if any pupil need a withdrawal form (to withdraw, LOL.)

My DS has just signed up today for 1st choice Japanese and 2nd choice Malay

Don't worry, go ahead, let your DC try.

          All the best!

          Regards.

Let your kid try 3rd language if qualified. No harm. My girl has done one year and has been going strong.

Does anyone have outside tuition for third language if you cannot cope? How much did you have to pay? BTW I chose Japanese.

my 2 daughters took Chinese special programme for their 3 language. My eldest has expressed to quit half way thru during the 1st half of the year. But I insisted her to carry on though I never push her reasoning that being able to converse in another language is significant beneficial to her. I found out from some other parents that 3rd language is good if the student is able to cope and apply on daily basis. Upon graduation either go to JC or Poly it will be totally a waste if still never make good use to converse. I spoke to the 3rd language teacher that 4 years of leaning CSP is learning foundation of the subject. It is not purely able to converse fluently, worst still if she or he never try to practise conversing among friends.

However my younger daughter has flair interest in mandarin and therefore she picks up faster and applies conversing in school. She is able to tell me when some of her friends talk bad about her. haha… so learning 3rd language is subjective…
