Hi seniors, during the first day of school, do we need to lug along our school books and for the orientation t-shirt, are the sizes similar to that of the school pe tshirt?

Hi, no you don't have to bring books for the entire orientation week! Lucky, huh? Just bring the forms you are required to bring~

I'm not sure about the orientation shirt though.

Thanks a lot, Choco, you've been really helpful! So, what is orientation going to be about?? :scratchhead:
Orientation is exciting! It's a week of getting to know your classmates and also RGS cultures. There will be PSLs guiding the sec 1s through this πŸ™‚ You'll learn the famous Raffles cheers :rahrah: and songs, there will be CCA orientation too, get to know your house, badge initiation and performance by each sec 1 class that parents will get invited to watch~

And meanwhile, the seniors start doing work

(that is, if things don't change next year)

First day 2 jan 2012, Y2-Y4 wear school uniform pinafore right?

The Y1s have to wear cullotte because you all don’t have the school badge yet.
              When is the Y1 camp?

May I know roughly how many students are allocated in each class? We weren’t required to buy biology and history books for Y1 next yr. Does it mean our DD needs to do research on their own or teachers will provide notes? Kindly advise. TIA

For non-GE classes, it's about 34-38 people a class, GE classes usually have 31-33.

I'm pretty sure history notes will be given, and they are amazingly thick! The history tb in year 1 is useless. For bio, if your DD happened to be taking the module, most people would buy it outside for reference. The amount of notes received sometimes depends on the teacher.

Thank you Choco05 for your clear explanation. I appreciate your very kind contributions every time I read the RGS posts. My family felt very welcome & warm on the registration day shown by the P, VP, staff and most of all the seniors who were involved on tt day. Great job!! I’m sure my DD who is a quiet girl will soon develop in her this enthusiastic spirit in no time. Thank you!

The fun parts are Raffles Initiation when you get all to know all the awesome school cheers and songs, and there are also Icebreakers, and the first 3 PSL session where PSLs will mentor you about things related to RGS. And it's really fun so look forward! πŸ™‚ All classes will also write, direct and produce a class performance that'll be put on when the parents come after camp Week 1 Friday πŸ™‚ There'll also be contact sessions with form teachers, introduction to House / Congress, and of course Badge Initiation. There's also CCA briefing and orientation. Of course there's overnight camp which is always cool, plus the Night surprise put up by Student Leaders πŸ™‚ On the more boring note there are a bunch of talks (like History of RGS) and phototaking and other stuff πŸ™‚

                        But it'll be cool!! πŸ™‚

And on a random note: when you go to school first day (Jan 2), we don't gather in the parade square but in the amphitheater as we do for all school events (dry weather). And we do a bunch of Raffles cheers. And I remember when I was in Year 1, we were the only batch not cheering, because we felt really awkward to be part of this and we'd never ... really cheered before? And it was loud, and we were all self-conscious. But now the Rafflesian cheers is a fav of many many people πŸ™‚
