Some competitions will allow you to send over the recordings. There are recording studio in Singapore which you can rent and top up for a technician to do the recording. If the child wins, then go for prize presentation overseas.Hi Coolkidsrock2,
Thanks for sharing.
I doubt I have the budget for international competition heehee.
I know there are piano competitions held locally but am not sure about violin. Your teacher may have lobang.
Alternative, try performances eg ChildAid or some of the talent competitions.
However, based on my own experience, playing for an exam and for performance/competition requires different skills. Tester and judges look for different things. I noticed that DD's playing achieved a quantum leap when I changed to a teacher who is also a professional performer. Same for her second instrument when she had a teacher from the orchestra.
My friend whose kids had been winning 4-6 international competitions annually for the last 3 years feel the same. They normally take the top prizes and are sometimes awarded additional prizes (eg Most Outstanding, Best Performer) post the prize presentation but they are not very advanced in terms of the graded exams as her kids are still in lower primary. -
Hi Coolkidsrock2,
Thank you for your insights abt the competitions -
Hi SAHM_TAN
Not at all. Your girl is still young so you have turnaround time. My friend’s kids took about 7 months to reach competition standard (from ground zero). Their teacher has a proven track record of producing winners at competitions but a very hard driver.
If you can find the “right” teacher, you probably have time to win some competitions before switching focus back to studies in time for PSLE.
Good luck. -
Anyone’s dd going TKGS sec 1 in 2013?
-
For those who are planning for next year, this info may be of interest to you.
This yr, total number of girls applying for tkgs was 1350 for 280 seats. This shows the popularity of the school. The average cop is 240. The highest t score is 271. I was pretty impressed with the new principal in her direction for the school. -
If the mean student COP is 240 that makes TKGS equal to schools like St Nicholas, MGS and SCGS.
What’s more impt is the fact that TKGS has no affiliated feeder primary school which means the COP range is narrower (closer abilities, motivatedness across the cohort)
No surprise at the high number of applicants. At 236, its a tremendous value COP for an all express girls’ school especially compared to schools which are not exclusively express stream yet requiring higher COP.

Anyone's dd going TKGS sec 1 in 2013?
Hi, I am a student and I am going to TKGS sec 1 in 2013. -
Other plus points: 1)the students are more well mixed from different culture and background. I’m sure students will benefit from mixing with people of diversity. 2)with no affiliated primary school, there is no domineering group of girls. Makes making new friends easier.

Which school did u enter at the end ? I have this problem this year too ... But I would prefer CCHM as I had gotten A* and Merit for Chinese but A for English ... Hard decision as TKGS banding is betterHello Crester.
I am a student.Difficulty considering between CCHM and TKGS.:siao:
