      Vikaesh:
      1. When we report to our new secondary school tomorrow at 8.30am, are we to wear our Primary school uniform or our own clothes ?

      2. Is there anything that we need to bring ?
The pupil should wear the Pri Sch uniform, bring along the report book, PSLE result slip and PSLE posting slip.

Are your parents going with you? I heard that some schools' bookshops will be selling the uniforms and items on the booklist.

There are many leadership opportunities in RI. Base on my son experience, he will try to share the process. First of all, the highest level will be the RIPB. The students have to be nominated by the students and teachers. Then, the teachers will select a few for the interviews. After the interview by the RIPB Exco and teachers, the nominated prefect will have to campaign to be elected by the students. Only about 30 to 40 make it to the elections. After 2 weeks of campaigning, the students and teacher will have to elect the prefects. The whole process is a good learning process and experience for the boy. They learn to get votes and make use of tools such as facebooks, blogs, etc to gather the attention of the students and teachers. It is quite close to our parliamentary election. The number of students elected will depends on the votes.

At the beginning of the year, the class will also select the Monitor, Asst. Monitor and Treasurer to form the class executive committee (CEC). This is also another layer of leadership. Teachers will also appoint different students to take care of each subjects. Some students will also given chances to co-ordinate/organise the House activities and internal competitions.

The other leadership opportunities are in the CCAs. In the 4th year, the students can also have opportunities to become the peer support leader to lead the Sec 1 students.

RI has put in place a RLP. You can get more information from http://www.ri.sch.edu.sg/rlp/
Thank you very much for sharing .

One more question, can somesone who is elected to be class monitor be elected as a prefect when the campaign for prefect starts? Or is it that once you are elected for one post , you will not be allowed to take in another post? Thank you

          Fairy:

As for taupok( i've never heard of this b4 joining this forum), i remember asking my son about it. He said it's 'únavoidable' during rugby sessions, which is part of their PE programme.
Hi Fairy, may I know what is taupok ?

Getting physical punishment is unaviodable. It is quite common.

:? :? Did I read wrongly, there is still physical punishment ? You mean the teachers will cane, hit or knock them or throw chalk at them like the olden days ? 😓 :!:

Or do your physical punishment means that the students will be punished to do sit-up , push-up, etc. ?

Oh my god, is this 'taupok' still on going? :!: :!:

                    I am worried. 🙏

Don't these kids worried that they will get punished when parents of the victim make their complaint?
