Hi Chez

(If invited,) of course it would be good if you can attend. However, it was slightly different for us as our Welcoming Ceremony was held together with the CCA Maze (showcases) on the same Saturday instead of 2 separate Fridays. After the briefing, DS was able to give us a quick tour round the campus and we also get to see the various CCAs that were being offered in MSHS and hence helped DS in his CCA selection. I should say, overall it was a worthwhile trip. : )
Hi SunBrazen, my son is deciding which CCA to join next yr, sec1. Looking through the 2012 cca schedule on MSHS website, he may want to choose a cca that in general once a week type. Digital Music & Arts, Photography and St John Ambulance seems the choices for him. Any views?

Hi CuriousHippo, I'm also a sec 3 studying in MSHS for 2012, 2013 Sec 4, hehe I'm in MITS, but I guess it doesn't fall under your criteria, cos its Wed and Fri.

DMA mostly focuses on the art aspect, I often see them making cartoon characters and try to make comics. Oh, and it is held in the 21st CC (Airconditioned) ๐Ÿ˜„

Photography often get many privileges during school events as they need not participate as normal students. Like during Chinese New Year Celebration they get to be at the front taking photographs and also get to see the behind-the-scenes stuff at the stage. Their club room is beside the sick bay. ๐Ÿ™‚

SJAB is like the other Uniform groups, they march, polish the shoes etc. The difference is that they get to learn medical stuff like first aid, CPR, Stretcher Drills, Transportation of casualty etc. They are well trained to administer suitable treatments for emergency situations like heart attack/stroke.

Anyway, there would be a CCA Maze on the Friday, 4th of January. There would be booths set up by the various CCA then maybe your son can choose them according to preference ๐Ÿ™‚

        Hi Auditionice,

What is MITS? Can you give us a brief idea of this CCA? :thankyou:
Sorry for the late reply, wow, just checked and suddenly i am 2 pages behind ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

MITS stand for Marist Infocomm Technology Society. It deals with the more technology related stuff. Like videography and coding. We hold our CCA sessions in the 21st CC as well. ๐Ÿ™‚ MITS is separated into 3 Groups. Programming, Flash, Videography. Hehe I'm in programming.

Programming mostly focuses on Objective-C (Xcode) where we get to learn how to create iOS apps. We recently won some awards based on that too! In 2011 we got into the top 6 finalists! We got a $100 Challenger voucher! http://www.infocommtalent.sg/blog/?p=1155
And that was when I was sec 2. ๐Ÿ˜„ Then in 2012, we got 3rd in the National Software Competition (Mobile Application). The prizes are attractive. Even at 3rd, each of the team member get $100 popular voucher and $50 Challenger voucher ๐Ÿ™‚

Also, in programming, we learn how to do C-programming, a more \"coding-based\" side of programming. The competitions in this area include the National Olympiad of Informatics and also in 2011 we won 1st in the National Software Competition (Algorithm). The prizes include a 1TB harddrive. ๐Ÿ™‚

The competitions mentioned above are the ones I participated in and won, but there are many many more which we didn't win unfortunately ๐Ÿ™‚ So maybe in the following years the next batch can ๐Ÿ™‚

Flash basically focuses on the software Adobe Flash CS5. They learn designing skills and coding(ActionScript V3.0) at the same time. Flash can do animations, flash games and many things. The main competitions are the Singapore Games Creation Competition, SPLASH Awards, N.E.mation, and even Scinemation!

Videography is more on the filming side. They do animations too, but is more like FrameByFrame, where you take pictures. This differs from flash as flash draws out the animation while framebyframe takes picture frame by frame ๐Ÿ˜„ They also film and make video montages for school events like the Student Leaders Investiture. The competitions include Scinemation as well, and School Digital Media Awards. They won quite a number of awards in Scinemation, like best storyboard for 2012 and more in 2011.

On a more general side, MITS help out in school events like the Sec 1 Registration we just went through. Together with the student councillors, the MITS member helped out for the E-registration.

Oh do look for us in the 21st CC on Friday, 4th of January. Our booth will be there ๐Ÿ˜„

School ends at 10.20 am tomorrow for the Sec 1s. A name tag will be given later on, the badge should have been bought already
