Would like DS to be involve in something like this as well in a yr or two.

My younger 2's kindergarten/playschool went to a hospice earlier last year and just this year, a funfair was organized to raise funds for the charity. We had a game/food stall and all 3 helped me reckie the game, try-outs, set up stall, make posters, put them up etc and manned the stall (plus grandma's too!). My DD1 kept track of the coupons we'd helped sell, bought, and collected. So it was something tangible for them coz they saw the recipients of the funds, then the process of managing a stall plus raise funds. That was in October.
Then at Christmas, got them to choose a toy to give away to an orphanage in Central PH where my colleague returned for the holidays. It's painful for them to part with the toy, no matter how little they've played with it over the year. But I think it shows the children just how blessed they are.
Next year? Have not planned yet but was thinking of getting them to raise funds through flag day (actually DD1 helped me sometime back. So cute to have a then 2 year old tag along. My can was very full indeed
and I've no ego that it's because the donors gravitated twds her...); or perhaps a donation drive for less priviledged children for Children's Day.

Oh thats nice .... I don't believe many pre-schs are actively involved in charity wk.

That's a fantastic idea, my sis lives in the philippines with my 3 nieces. I will try and speak to them to see if they can help me coordinate something like that there. I can start now with DS then, don't have to wait till he's older. - If that's just a simple question for affirmation, that that should do the trick.
- If it is a question of identity vs a Higher Being, then this would warrant a sit-down talk I'd think of who he is in the universe...
- or :idea: an inpromtu discussion of the birds and the bees??!?!
What was his expression/psyche like when he asked that question!

Not sure what has hit ds but he keeps on pondering/harping on the same subject. Very sensitive subject to woman: Diamond. The first question was raised while we as a family were walking in the mall, passing a jewellery shop when he popped the question.
DS: Mummy, why do woman loves diamond so much?
Me:(Dont know what to reply) Why not ask daddy.
DS: Daddy, why do woman likes diamond?
DH: Err... Because, it's woman's best friend.
DS: (Quiet pondering)
The following day, while in piano class.
DS: Mummy, why must diamond be woman's best friend. Diamond
is dead. Not alive. It can't cheer a person up, it can't talk, it
can't..
Me: Concentrate on what your teacher is trying to explain please. (Phew! Siam the questions)
The following day, while in the shopping mall.
DS: Mummy, what is diamond actually?
Me: Oh...it is a rock.
DS: What!!!???? You mean I have to pay so much for just a piece of
rock?

It's a rock that symbolizes a precious gem
uncovered by people who work very very
very hard to find it for the taukehs in the
gem industry. Hence the obscene prices on
some like the pink diamond! You can go into
the details of rock history to sway him from
the thought of diamond:woman.. Knowing
your DS, he may fall for it enuf to quit asking
and go into research mode. Can also
watch with him the Leonardo De Caprio movie,
Blood Diamond for reinforcement.
If the interest persists, you can introduce him
to other gemstones and the different colours
so special to each..
As for the best friend part.. well, since it IS that
exorbitant a price to pay for one, shouldn't it be?

My children love watching advertisements!
For me it is time to catch up on washing
dishes.. set the dryer.. get some water..
(etc) But for my 2 DDs.. it's entertainment.
Just yesterday, while sitting together
watching TV... all of us... the new VolksW.
advertisement flashed on TV.
Men drive it.
Boys dream about it.
The new ............
Then it ended. To which DD1 said, \"Hey!
then how about women!?! Mummy, does
it mean women can't drive that?\"
Hubs eagerly replied, \"No, women just
can't drive.\" -
Another advertisement observation..
After hubs recent Stand Chart marathon,
he of course complained of the aches and
pains.. :roll: Then, suddenly he got cramps.
DD1 said, \"Mum, let's get daddy the ointment
on TV.\"
I asked, \"Which one?\"
DD1 answered, \"The TGC one... aiyah.. the one
where the trishaw/rickshaw guy had to cycle the
big lady on board.. He also had aches like daddy.
After he applied the ointment, he could pedal very
fast! If daddy uses that, he won't have the pain any
more and he can even run the marathon again!\"

i gotta share this one.
my dd and i were on the bus and it was during the peak hour so we ended up standing. I had to keep reminding dd to hold on tightly to the poles in case she falls, cos i myself was carrying quite a lot of stuff.
at first she was quite happy and excited hanging onto the pole and balancing on the moving bus. after a while she grew tired and asked \"mama, where are the seats?\"
i said \"there are no seats, all the seats are occupied.\"
little did i expect that she would continue, \"but someone should stand up and give their seats to us right? i m a little girl, what if i fall down?\"
i was like where can i find a hole to hide? cos dd's voice is always LOUD and CLEAR. :oops:
but hey, she's right so i explained \"but it really depends on whether people are willing to give up their seats to us u know?\"
fortunately at this pt in time, we reached a bus-stop near interchange and a lot of people alighted. so dd quickly went looking for a seat.
i must add that we usually have seats offered to us, that's y dd has a very strong sense of what should be the right thing to do. so sporeans are still generally and genuinely nice and considerate people -
DD2 : Mum.. what is p....rrr... (pause)
Me : Priority? (Pointing to the sign behind the corner seats in the train)
DD2 : Yep.
Me : That means err.. like putting more attention to something of more
importance.. Why?
DD2 : Now i know why they put priority there.. and plus the pictures
too. The train people/staff are trying to tell people to give up their
seats to people of more importance like those on the picture. An old
person with a stick, pregnant ladies, and children (in tow).
Me : Yes, that's about right.
DD2 : So is it right to say that we are to give priority to people who
need it?
Me : Yes, people who need it more than ourselves.
DD2 : Hey, then that picture is us! Parent and child on lap. We could
do that... err.. if only we had a seat. Hey, but that means others shud
give up the seat to us, isn't it mummy?
Me : Yes, it would be nice if they could?
Making reference to an able bodied man without ear-piece somewhere
near to where we were standing.. and who was clearly listening in to the
conversation.. :roll:
DD2 : Then why.... he...
Me : Ssssshh..
DD2 : Why sshh?
Me : That man is asleep. Lower down your voice.
DD2 : Well... he must've just closed his eyes then.
Or pretending to sleep.. cause he wasn't just now.
