The way u put it makes me wonder if u ever studied in SG before. We also transit from 4 to 8 subjects mah.Hi hazel,
We worked so hard with our kids, didn't we? Well, our boys made it to express stream and that is something I thank God for.
Psle 2012 will be etched in my mind for a long time to come. My son told me somethingthe other day. He said he appreciated my company during the tough year...for supporting him and he loves me. That is a reward no amount of money cannot buy.
From 4 subjects to 8...the same frame of time in a week to study for, excluding CCA. It's going to be another uphill task...time management PLUS tougher subjects. Hubby told me to let go and let son move on.
Off topic, what will happen to ME when my son is due for NS? 我会很不舍得.
The algebra math is by SAP.
Hi simkhoo,
I saw assessment books for history and geography...chose 2 but put them down after a while.
Donch you have any experience which you can pass on your your kids? :scratchhead: -
janet_lee88:
First and foremost, I've not reach that stage where my kids are in sec school. However, I used to think that when the kids go to sec 1, I can \"wash my hands off them\". I can start to focus on my career, need not make sure I am back by certain time to make sure they start studying. They should learn to survive by themselves without me watching them like a hawk. I should learn to let go, etc.... I thought that's what happened to me when I went to sec school. I told mum that no more tuition like primary school and I just coped by myself. We as mummies have to pass baton to husbands when boys move to Sec 1...then I have to close both eyes....not bcos I am cruel but some things which hubby does can be eye sore.
However, I am hearing conflicting encounters from other parents who have been through that. One told me that she let go when her ds went to sec school and the son literally \"flew away\". So when we spoke, she said she was trying to pull back the control which she felt she shouldn't have let go everything. So her feedback was even if kids are in sec school, as parents, we still need to watch them.
Speaking with my teenage niece and nephew. They said that despite what they went through in sec school, they felt that as their parents continue to \"keep a close watch\" on them and maintain a close relationship with them, it was not possible for them to \"turn bad\". My nephew was failing all subs at Sec 4 as he said he mixed with the wrong company. But fortunately, he eventually did well enough to go to poly. He just graduated and is a fine young man who knows what he wants. My nieces on the other hand has a strict father so they are the decent (kuai kuai) type. But the good thing is I don't seem them becoming rebellious despite having a strict father. -

yes, my gf also told me the same thing...not that we can wash our hands when kids go to sec school...that is the teenage years and also the time they can mix with wrong company. so, not possible to adopt hands-off approach but to talk to him nicely so that he will still approach hubby & me when he needs advice. how to go back to work ??? no way.

For me, I decided to let go to a certain extend. Last two years I have stopped checking his bags for memo from school and wanted him to show me forms which I have to sign. Even in cases where I already know there is consent form to sign, I pretend I don’t know and wait for my son to show me
Some times it is good to let him face the tongue-lashing from his teacher.
Now that he is in Sec school, I will stop reminding him on things he has to bring to school. But, I will still keep an eye on his school work. Not the holding hand style but just to ensure he does not procrastinate. A friend told me as kids enters teenage years, it is important to make sure you know who he mix with. I totally agree to that. -

My son came back yesterday with a black face...complained about the many rules to remember. Also said if fail any subject, there will be remedial after school. It's good that the school is keeping a tight leash. Some times it is good to let him face the tongue-lashing from his teacher.

Fortunately school is nearby and once he has settled in, I will monitor his behaviour. Another phase

Out of scope of discussion but can I check if anyone has checked out the sec 1 exam papers are available yet. What I can find is very dated ones 2007-2008. Vendor says check back after CNY but the first test will start next week.

No more TV, games, iPad...in short, entertainment of any kind. -

Ahmmm, that's a sure way to make them hate education and schooling in general. I'm sure you didn't mean that.

I believe everything has a priority. Finish school work first, after that, I don't care how you spend your time.
