2010 PSLE Discussion

YLH88:
The 2009 booklet will only be given to students in October 2010. From past experience, the cut of points for most schools would usually be released in the MOE website in Feb or later.Hi,
I'm new too in KiasuParents. My son is in P6 2010. Would like to check where can I get a copy of the 2009 latest booklet on the list of secondary schools and the cut off points ? Is it available on MOE websites ?
Thank you!
Meanwhile, can check out this thread, we are having a hot discussion on this year's cut off points (COP) there! Go to page 1 for the latest COPs but bear in mind they are not the official figures, they are just a guide.

Ok, will read the thread.
Thank you! -

This very true. Let me share my experience with you. My dd till mid year P6 is just about 23*+. I brought her to various independent school open houses in May/Jun. She loved one of them very much. From there, I work out with her how much she needed to score in each subject in order to qualify. I did not provide her with the option of DSA as I felt that she needed to put in effort to prove herself in PSLE. Beside, I don't think I can afford the independent school fees should she not qualify for EEIS but got in through DSA.For motivation of your son i like to share my own experince with you.
first, take time to talk with him ..like what he wants to be and which school he is aiming to enter .
I really started like this. Then make the child feel that mum and dad are really........ really working with him to fullfill his goal.
Spend more time from now.......still it is not too late.
Go one by one analysing which area in the subject is he weak. Take your time . Go through the weak subjects up to this holidays.
My own experince is no point puttting him in tution ....my sons home tution teacher comes and goes.........there is an improment of 5% ...
but if you sit with him it can be 50%
No one will know your son as you.
spend some valuable time for him .
cheer up.
There are a lot of mums like you.
She is one person who does not show improvement with tuition. She would refuse to do tuition homework.
I sat with her as much as I can during her home drill practices, ban everyone from the TV, etc. She worked very hard and got up to 25*+ in her PSLE.
Parent's involvement, especially morally is more important than actually coaching your child in the subject. I believe many parents cannot handle those tough questions in top school exam papers with ease. But by providing moral support and spending time with the child while he/she is doing his/her drills make them feel that you are all working towards their goals together. -
Thank you CJS for sharing your experience.

Hi YLH88,
Please refer to the link below:
Just choose the secondary school you are interested in and you can further find the background of each school in Singapore and their past 3 years' COP.
http://app.sis.moe.gov.sg/schinfo/SIS_index.asp
Of course, anyone with a good compilation is welcome to share...25hourmaid has collated a list of COP for 2010 Sec-1 intake above. Thanks to her. -
We know the link.
But it will be tedious to check 1 by 1, unless 1 day I may go crazy to start compiling.
Anyone has already the compiled version of previous yrs COP? -

I don't know how MOE calculate the PSLE score for 3 subjects. But I would think that it has to be based on these 3 subjects only. I may be wrong though.
You are not wrong. The kids who have exemption from MT usually end up at an advantage and do fairly well in the end.
I have friends who applied for exemption as late as a few weeks before the PSLE! -
Ha, school reopening in another 2 days time. I wonder how well you have prepared for yr kids psle.

Oh, you mean, can apply for exemption so late? What are their reasons? I heard from my MOE teacher friend that only those who miss P1 in Singapore (i.e. overseas) will be approved by MOE for MT exemption?

I suppose if the kid can do well in MT, then NOT having exemption is actually more advantageous right? Since I heard that having a good score on MT paper actually boost the T-score than an equivalent good score on, say Math or Science?
Can a student apply for MT exemption, say at P2, then request for retraction or reinstatement at P6? -

Missing P1 will be granted exemption? Really? but I heard that it's a minimum of 2 years' absence before MT exemption will be granted. :?
Anyway, here's more info on MT exemption. http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/admissions/returning-singaporeans/mother-tongue-policy/
