2013 Sec 1 Discussions

mummy so kiasu:
This week is CCA trial week. Need to go back to school for CIP (collect old newspapers) on this sat. Still can't decide on the core CCA. Limited choices & no background.
There will be 2 talks this week regarding CCA. I advised son to pick one which requires minimal follow up or he will have to stay back several times, leaving little time to get homework done. At Sec 1, there is much adjustment and need to do well. There is also a camp coming up during Mar holidays...looks like he will be very busy soon. Forget about uniform groups. -

I also think it is important to speak well as well as to develop the skill to put others at ease in ones presence. Have met some kids who have already developed such social skill very well.
We put the Debating Club as one of the CCA options as the school engages an external trainer to guide the students.
Can try Toastmasters classes or the LAMDA certification.

THanks!
Our school no debate team so can't join. Was looking out for one too. -

Hi Janet, under the LEAPS program, students are awarded CCA points and these points will be converted to a grade for JC/poly admission. A1/A2 2 points. B3-C6 1 point. CCA points are awarded to commensurate with the demands of the CCA.mummy so kiasu:

Think clubs and societies where the students can represent the school and yet practise indoors are the best - earn points but not wear the child out too much. -

I was thinking of this...can earn points yet not too tired to get homework done when he reaches home. However, interest must be there. He is very much like hubby...loves IT related stuff. -
Hi fifiyeo
Maybe you can try those Drama society or similar if no debating club. They will likely have some trainers teaching the students speech and drama. Someone mentioned the training that the students received some time back to me, but I cannot remember much as it is not something DD is interested in. -
Son likes Infocomm club...not bad idea since it is in the air con room.
There are 3 tests 2moro - Chinese, science and English. Really wondering what will be tested :scratchhead: -
DS wants to join flying club. I think it's so cool if he gets in. Can eventually be a junior pilot if he does well. Oh, I told him that it's my dream too to fly a plane. :imcool:
This boy not interested in speech and drama. I'm the one who thinks he should be doing it. Hiaz, he really needs to speak better. Wonder what to do with him? :scratchhead: -

He told me the tests are to gauge their standards...something like a mini PSLE thing without the oral and compo. -
